Nice review, thanks. I've had HB35+ for about 2 years now and REALLY like it. I also swopped out the tuners for some locking Vansons (which are inexpensive and really good) I did fit Semour Duncans to it and it just became my 2nd favourite guitar after that! The only down side that is not possible to pick up in a review of a new guitar is wear and tear. I don't play this guitar a lot but the frets are showing too much wear relative to the amount of play it gets which is a shame. Obviously a refret is out of the question because it would cost more than the guitar did!!! I've put the original pickups back in so that the Duncans could go onto a more high end instrument.

Hey Alan, thanks for sharing. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on the frets. You're right, a new fret job would be almost the cost of the guitar itself.

Great review...I bought 2 solid wood acoustics from them last spring and they were fantastic..one needed a bit of fret sprout work ( the "B" stock one) but that was it. I just ordered this HB35 . Every single review is so positive! looking forward :) ...Thanks for this Mack.

Hey Mack! Ted here. I hope you will do an update video when the mods are finished. I have several Harley Bentons, but not this model, and I'm happy with them. Also I just received a Firefly FF338 which is similar to this HB. It has a spalted maple veneer and transparent ruby red finish. For $212.00 from China to my door in one week, with no damage, is pretty good!

Killer review, I recently picked up my first HB, the CLD 41S WN, a beautiful guitar, I am in the process of dropping the action by shaving the saddle as it is a fixed neck design...It plays and sounds wonderful as is, I just prefer low action easy button in everything, music, surfing, etc...Create a great day, create a great life...

Hey great vid! I got one of these same finish. This is my 9th one since Christmas( I know bad eh). This was the first one that had a problem worth talking about. The 12th high E was dead. I sent them a note thinking if it needed service being in Canada maybe they could reimburse me. Nope... they refunded me the complete price!(minus shipping and duty). I actually argued with them and said this was way too much and nowhere near fair for them nor was it necessary. They insisted. I fixed it myself(first time I tied something like that). Just found the problem with a fret rocker and carefully sanded the fret above. Works perfectly now! I figured since they did that for me I’d tell anyone that would listen. As far as the tuners although cheapies... they work great as far as I’m concerned, on all my HBs. Wouldn’t hurt to upgrade them for sure. Anyway that’s my 2 cents. Thanks.

I have to agree with Mack's general opinion of this guitar. The machine heads aren't the best although they do stay in tune. My first job on this guitar was to remove the strings and change them after giving the frets a good polish. I do agree with Mack re the pups- they aren't poor but just lack that tiny bit extra. I bought this guitar as a hang on the wall quick to play without bothering to need to plug in as it just has enough acoustic sound for practicing or messing about. Amazing value.

3 days, baby! Just a tip: Model is HB35Plus, 'cause of the push/pulls and the squeare inlays. Color is gorgeous. The only thing stops me to buying this beauty is the switch position, it will be a hell to repair/change.

Great video - I recently bought the HB-35 Plus in Lemon Drop because I wanted an inexpensive 335 style but don’t like the Dot from Epiphone. WOW man!! Unbelievable quality for the money! I decided to upgrade the electronics and drop a set of Seymour Duncan Seth Lover pick ups and some Grover Tuners, I would put my guitar up against anything 3x or 4x the price - SO happy with the end results!
@MackGuitarGuy
@MackGuitarGuy 3 жыл бұрын
Awesome! Check out my update video as well. I updated the tuners to the Grover Deluxe tuners and upgraded the bridge. I'm waiting on the pickups that I'm going to install but they're about 4 to 5 more weeks away from arriving. That will be the last upgrade and then I want to spend some time on a Gibson 335 as a comparison. IMO you can't beat the HB 35 at this price. It's the ultimate guitar platform for upgrades because it's constructed and plays really well.

Great review. I have the sunburst version. It's beautiful but I was avoiding playing it because it just wouldn't stay in tune for 5 minutes. I've now replaced the tuners with HB's own locking tuners and what a difference! I've also had to compromise a little on the action. Fret buzz on the bottom E string means I've had to raise the bridge more for the lower strings. I'm sure this is sortable with a bit of fret dressing but for now I'm more than happy. In all other respects it's an amazing guitar and stunning looking in whichever finish you choose.

Great review! I got my guitar second-hand (for £140), but it looks like new. I am going to polish the frets, change the tuners and I may install a pair of Seymour Duncan Seth Lover Pick-ups that I already have. That aside, it is wonderful to play and I am so glad that I bought it, especially as I was contemplating spending considerably more on a 335-type guitar.

@MackGuitarGuy 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Austin, they really are set up exceptionally well. I haven’t had to touch the setup on it. It truly is perfect and it feels so good to play. The plastic/synthetic bone really doesn’t bother me because the guitar sustains and resonates for days. I’m going to put a set of really nice pickups in it and I’ll upgrade the bridge, I already installed some Gotoh Deluxe tombstone tuners on it. This guitar is going to definitely be one of my go to guitars.

@@MackGuitarGuy I was going to put some hipshot locking tuners on when I get the chance, and have toyed with the idea of some split ultatrons on it - but it's a job that is beyond my capabilities, so I'd need to take it to my local luthier, which means I need to save the money first.

Yes, it could do all those styles. If a guitar has playability (low action, good fretwork, no buzzes) it's more or less good for any style. When you buy an HB you might get playability out of the box, or it could require a luthier to make that happen. If you want a thin single coil sound you can get 90% of the way there with eq.

Other's have messaged me saying that they got a 'Lemon" but when they contacted Harley Benton (Thomann) they replaced the guitar at no cost and didn't even have to return the previous guitar. The reality is that guitars in this price range will have a small percentage of guitars produced that are not up to specs. What really counts in my opinion is how the company handles those issues.
