Thanks for the memories. I lived in Adelaide between 1989 & 1994 & used to hitch a ride to Adelaide from Ted's Road House out pass Deer Park. Then I got a job with Virginia Express Freighter & used to get a lift back & forth between Melbourne & Adelaide, either with our company trucks or Copini Transport or mix it up with a hitch. Used to buy Valiant's in Melbourne & drive them to Adelaide with a permit & sell them in Adelaide & triple my money. If they can last a drive from Melbourne to Adelaide then there was nothing mechanical wrong. Twice a month I would travel, I remember all the quick trucks back then, especially Constantino, Kerswell, MacDermott, Schultz, GKR, Donaldson Brothers. At Virginia we also loaded out of JetsExpress on Footscray rd. Load up the W model Kenworth, 400Hp Cat, 15 O/D with 3.5 arse end it was quick, out through Ballarat Rd, through Ballarat, no by pass then, & even though Constantino was 3 quarters loaded when you took off, he would suck the doors off you down the 3 laner at Langi Garangi. Always caught us before Ararat, only Kerswell was quicker, & Mick MacDermott Gunmetal Grey Mack Super Liner with the 100 mph Mack Diff Ratio would give Kerswell a run. I tell stories what it was like back then, & people don't beleive you. No overtaking lanes from the border to Tailem Bend, everyone helped each other out & would call out on the CB when it was safe. 140 kph through the middle of Keith, whilst overtaking on the other side kicking up a dust storm. 120 kph through Tailem Bend, always slowed down through Coonalpyn because of the cop shop. One time 3 of us traveling to Adelaide got booked by a D Van doing over 110 kph through Kiata. Log book check & a warning to slow down next time. Friendly cop & the only reason we didn't get a ticket because he was so well hidden that no one called him out. He was more concerned about the tailgating than anything, told us couple of other big ones hit 115 kph & the double decker bus cruise pass at 112 kph too. Ah the stories of the glory days, you worked hard & played hard, I was barely 20, now it's rare to meet someone who experience those days. The stuff I saw, you wouldn't get away with 10 % of it now. They throw you away & lock you away like they did to Julie who rolled our company LTL racing to market whilst drunk at Beaufort, Melbourne bound & still managed to escape the police who were waiting for her at the Avenue of Honour. You forgot about Simon curswells Cabover Kenworth 1000 h.p V8cat How can you ever forget about that 100 mile ahour truck Adelaide to Perth.express Nobody could come close to that truck

@@TuffBurnOutTeam Hi Tuff Ute No I didn't forget Simon Kerswell KW at all I did mention it. Saw it before the extension & after the extension. The fastest truck out there back in the day, mind you Cleveland Freightliners gave him a good run in the Mack Muncher's back before the modifications. Once the 700hp V8 Cat was unleashed forget it. Simon carted the Royal Mail between Melbourne & Perth as a subbie for Bunkers. They can fine him but if the police grounded the KW they had to post police officers to guard the truck because of the mail. Lots of rumours whatever happened to his truck. Apparently banned out of Victoria so can only run Adelaide to Perth. Rumour has it that Bunkers lost the mail & was put on the rail. That way Kerswell lost his privileged to speed & get grounded. Apparently the WA police had enough of him doing 200 kph accross the Nullabor Plains & a judge ordered the truck destroyed. Rumour has it, it was buried as is, chopped up & buried, parked in a shed, I haven't meet anyone with a definite answer but most old timers believe it was cut up & buried under the watchful eye of the police. A real shame, I don't know if you ever saw the KW, either way it was ahead of it's time when all decked out. It was super fast, loud & in your face. 3408 V8 Cat with a 20 speed Spicer. Like I said, the shit I saw from 1989 to 1995 on the Adelaide to Melbourne run, you try doing 10% of the stuff today, forget it lose of licence, ground the semi, straight to jail. Now we have bunny drivers with 540 hp to 700 hp semi's, automatic doing single container work off the dock & still get it wrong. Back then anything between 400 & 450 hp & you were king. Only the privledge few had 500 hp V8 Mack's mostly Constantino. Forget the European Big Bangers they just weren't in the same league as the American Horsepower. The good old days of trucking.
