A studio performance of Inner City Blues, one of the tracks from Richard Elliot's new album, In the Zone, a grooving, funked up, horn splashed collection that finds the energized-as-ever tenor saxophonist paying homage to the pioneering instrumental artists of his formative years, drawing on the influences of legends like Grover Washington, Jr., Bob James and David Sanborn.
"My original motivation for doing an album like In The Zone was the opportunity to reconnect with my earlier self, the musician I was when I first started out," says Elliot. "The songs remind me of listening to my heroes in those days and seeing them perform live, feeling incredible joy and enthusiasm about the possibility of following in their footsteps."

"Inner City Blues" is one of those songs that everyone covers, to the point where I really don't need to hear it again...that is until I heard Richard Elliot's interpretation. Excellent! Awesome! Soulful! Smokin'!

Went to school in Detroit with the great Randy Jacobs on guitar. We knew in high school he was going to be great. And I've been following Richard Elliot since his Tower of Power days. Excellent band all around.
