The Brazilians know what's going on here. She ALSO speaks portuguese w/ an American accent. Go ask any Brazilian to listen to her speak portuguese, they will agree, she's not a native speaker. She fakes a Brazilian accent when speaking English to showcase and affirm that side of her ancestry, which she is more proud of and wants to be identified with. It's almost like, sometimes you will see very light-skinned black men or mixed race black men talk w/ a really hard ebonic accent around their black peers. Take the example of Steph Curry, even. Steph speaks with an extremely strong black ebonic accent, very different from his dad and his sister Sydel (who basically talks like she's white). It's a tendency that develops in order to display valued group membership & belonging (I'm really black, guys!), where some other factor (e.g., not having been raised in Brazil for Mackenzie, or looking almost like a white guy for Steph Curry--and those aren't my words, Kevin Durant even said he thought Steph Curry was white when they first met!) might cause it to be questioned.
