Your instructions are really excellent. I am so happy that finally an expert offers practical help for setting up and working with master fader. Your quiet and understandable language allows you to understand everything on your own system. Mackie Axis System is the best way to mix bands perfectly, really. I would like to encourage you to make further sequences to give all users, via video, all the possibilities that MasterFader offers via DL32R and DC16. Your videos will make Master Fader the market leader. Thanks again ...

Juergen7624, WOW! I am so happy that you have gained some good stuff from the videos. I currently do not own a DC16, but will ask my contact at Mackie and see if they will loan me one so I can do some more videos, that would be fun. I am humbled and honored to be on their beta team and who knows, it never hurts to ask right? Have a wonderful day!!!

I am so glad you gained some good insight from these tutorials... make sure and watch this playlist too. It is a playlist of tutorials about the Mackie Axis DC16, but I go into some good detail about mixing with and without compression, gating, Eq and other stuff. These tutorials are actually more about sound than the DC16 mixing console. If you have no interest in the DC16 controller console, you can skip the first three tutorials and start with PART 4. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h9Z9pNJ_p9nPemQ.html

@@user-jx3jp3gb4x I've been playing around with the DL16S that we got about a month ago. And we'll be using it for a day-long festivals on two separate dates this month. Excited but also a bit nervous. Been watch a ton of videos on how-to and now getting into experimenting with it.

@@bronsonyazzie1065 Hi Bronson, just to keep from being intimidated, there are really two important things to remember,,, if you suddenly find yourself somewhere and don't know how to get back where you were, click the center of the three icons in the far upper left-hand corner of Master Fader.... that will always take you to the main mix. Second thing.... the MIX selector is the big LR button on the right-hand side and that is where you select which monitor mix or the main mix to make changes. Experimenting with it before your event is certainly the only way to be confident that you will know how do do whatever it is you need to do and always.... Have fun

Hi Dan..I was wondering i did a show with my band using my dl806. I was using my iPad to mute the fx button when we spoke to audience and than put back on when we were ready to sing. Sometimes it still sounded dry when I unmuted fx. Is there a better way to switch between dry and wet? Like a foot pedal on analog boards? Thanks for all your help. Much appreciated.

Dan what iPad would you suggest for my new dl1608 I have a 8th gen but won’t fit and what master fader would you load in? Master fader 4 shows 16 channels and master fader 5 shows 32 channels.?

I don't know what iPad to suggest, I no longer have a DL1608, also, you don't have 32 channels so you need to download whatever version that is the most recent for the DL1608.

Thanks for these excellent tutorials - you are a lifesaver! I have a question - you begin this tutorial with a lot of work already done - I'm looking for a tutorial for a first - time setup. Do you have anything like that? I love that you get into a lot of the more obscure functions, but if I knew the basics, that would make these tutorials a lot more helpful. Many thanks again!

Hi Paul, if you are completely new to sound and recording, and know nothing about inputs, outputs, gain, routing, microphones, microphone types, dynamic, condenser, amplifiers, speakers etc. I do not know what to suggest for you.
@PaulDankers
@PaulDankers 6 жыл бұрын
I can see that my question was far too vague. I apologize for that. I'm not new to sound and recording. Everything that you have listed, I can do on a traditional soundboard - but this board is so utterly different from the tactile boards that I am used to. For example: on a regular board, if I want to assign a channel to a submix, I would just push the button to assign it to a sub and I would know that then that channel would show up in the sub output. On this board, I see the 12 XLR outputs, but I don't know how to (for example) assign those outputs to a particular VCA or Sub. I'm not clear on how this app treats VCA's differently from Subs vs. just using them as straight AUX. It's really hard to visualize the path of the signal from (for example) a microphone input to an output, like a VCA. I'm not trying to be critical, but in these tutorials, you have already set up so many things within your app, and that initial setup step is what I am missing. I also don't see where I would specify what level of signal I am sending or receiving (mic level/line level) The step where you route the signal within the app to each output. Again, thanks for your work. It's super helpful.
@user-jx3jp3gb4x
@user-jx3jp3gb4x 6 жыл бұрын
you said,,, " example, a microphone input to an output, like a VCA" ... You need to understand how a "sub-group" and VCA are completely different. A sub-group is a single (mono) or stereo (if two are linked) AUDIO output that input channels can be assigned to for the purpose of let's say... VCA 1 (PT) all praise team singer's mics, or VCA 2 (DRUMS) all drum channels, etc. You can not route the audio of any inputs or outputs to a VCA because a VCA does not have an input or an output. A VCA is just a remote control to manipulate audio faders that are assigned to it. Where are you located? You can visit my website and call me and I can go over any questions you have. This will take far too long to describe all these things here. In this video I specifically discuss VCA use. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lb2WY5Wr1bzGY2Q.html

Great tutorial, thank you so much for you wisdom and time. One question, hope someone knows this answer. I loose WiFi sometimes, how do i reconnect? Right now i restart Master Fader and reload "show" this makes my heart jump every time i use the Mackie, and hope there are a easy way to just reconnect. But can't find this feature anywhere. Best wishes
@user-jx3jp3gb4x
@user-jx3jp3gb4x 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mr. Bacon, I completely understand your stress level when you have to reconnect. Remember this.... your iPad is just a controller for the Mackie DL mixer. When your iPad loses it's connection, regardless of why,.... the DL mixer will continue to produce nice, clean, uninterrupted audio. As long as you are not needing to make a change to the mix at this very moment, relax and reconnect. DO NOT reload the show!!!!! Sometimes a prompt will come up as Master Fader is reconnecting to the mixer and it will give you three choices,,, always choose the top most option, that will allow you to jump back on the bandwagon and no changes will be made to what is going on inside the mixer. I highly suggest that you buy an Apple router, either an Apple Airport Express or an Apple Airport Extreme. Both of those are incredible routers and even though they are now discontinued and no longer made, it does not change the fact that they are fantastic Wi-Fi routers. I have both and I usually use the Express because it allows me to use "Airplay" If you don't know what Airplay is look into it. If you need further help never hesitate to call me via my website... www.kurysound.com

The Mackie DL32R mixer needs a Wi-Fi router so that the iPads and iPhones can connect to it wirelessly and control the mixer.

Hi Michael, there are a lot of microphones designed specifically for kick drums these days. I can say that I have used just about all of them, and even though I am NOT a Shure fan, ironically, I have found the Shure Beta 52A to be the best for me. I am also not a guy that makes the kick drum 95% of the mix. One of the worst sounding kick mics I have ever heard is the Audix D6, obnoxious, excessive mud. Audix does make some other good sounding mics, but not the D6. this is of course, just my opinion :) Have a wonderful day Michael!

How can I set this up using Cubase 10 in my DAW>
@user-jx3jp3gb4x
@user-jx3jp3gb4x 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Elija, you said, "how can I set "this" up" ... what is "this"? I assume you are using a DL16S, or a DL32S or a DL32R. Connect the mixer with a USB cable to the computer where Cubase is the DAW, then set up the Mackie DL mixer as the audio interface for Cubase. I don't have a Windows computer or Cubase so I can't help any further, but all DAWs communicate to external audio interfaces the same. The computer's audio has to be communicating with the Mackie's USB connection.

I need to knw how to set gain...
@user-jx3jp3gb4x
@user-jx3jp3gb4x 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Pranjay, let me try to keep this brief, but I am not good at that at all :) Setting the gain would be real easy if the volume of the audio signal (singer) instrument etc., never changed, but it does. The signal is always changing, going up and down in volume, sometimes really loud and other times so low we can barely hear it. It is important to always set the gain as high as we can without allowing any clipping/distortion. If you are fortunate enough to have a certain amount of time for a "sound check" it would be best to ask the singer to sing his/her loudest passage into their microphone, and kindly instruct them that they know how important it is to be consistent with how they hold the microphone. Once we set the loudest passage to hit the yellow level on the input meter, that should be sufficiently safe so that we don't get any distortion in case they actually sing louder, and that can always be a possibility. One thing to remember is that if you lower the gain of an input during the performance, you will need to go to each and every monitor mix and increase the level a small amount for that channel, to compensate them for the level that you took away. You don't want the singer to say,... "why did you turn me down in the middle of my solo?" Setting input gain is not difficult to do at all, but understanding how to get an honest example of what that channel is going to be dealing with during the music is oh so important for good control of the sound. See,.... I said I couldn't keep it brief but there you have it. I am proud of you for asking for help, I am honored and blessed to be able to help anyone understand sound better. I hope this helps, continue to ask questions if needed. Have a great week!

Hi Dan Thank you for your answer. You're doing a very good job and I hope Mackie will provide you with the DC16 to put more video on the net! Your voice is very understandable (I am a German) and your ability to explain step by step for everyone comprehensibly explaining the possibilities of the system is very good. I have been supporting my daughter for 8 years as a sound engineer. She is a trained singer and actress. So far with analog Mackie mixer. Now she has formed a band with another four first-class musicians, from Basel / Switzerland. The previously used analog mixer was too small, so I bought the DL32R now. The DC16 will be delivered soon. I've been very knowledgeable about the Mackie Axis system for a long time. Really the best! And the sound, from the DL32R, simply top notch! If you are interested, have a look at this link: Https://kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i5qkfMZ2xp3JfI0.html One of the first performances of my daughter Noemi (by the way, she did a high school year in Montana / USA some years ago and loves the USA) Here is my motto: Bad sound - kills good music have a good time Best regards Juergen

Side note-when I used the 5 app it said it required a firmware update so connected to computer and went to site...no software or firmware updates available for the 16 channel mixer...zero Got on the forums and everyone else seems to have the same problem. @@notacommie5415 you can not set up and run Master Fader 4 or 5 for the FOH position, in other words, you must have an iPad to set up everything to your liking. When Master Fader runs on the iPhone, it only allows basic features. You can not adjust EQ, compression, gating, effects, routing, or a ton of other things. You must have an iPad to use Master Fader with any Mackie DL mixer.... Where did you see everyone else having the same problem as you? When you downloaded the two Master Fader apps, (4 and 5) it not only downloaded the app for your device, but it also downloaded the "FIRMWARE" update for the actual hardware mixer. When you connect your i-Pad wirelessly to the DL mixer,.... and the mixer has old firmware,.... it can not communicate with new software, so it will (as you said) prompt you to do a Firmware update. You are correct, there is no firmware updates or apps on the Mackie website. Master Fader can only be downloaded from the app store, of course when 5.1 is released, then Android users will be able to download the app from wherever it is they download their other apps, I don't use Android so I don't know. Until then, Apple devices are the only devices that will work with Master Fader. I will be available tomorrow to help you get up and running.
