I ran into the same issue out here in ND. Once we got that initial ice on the creeks and rivers I was trapping, the beaver activity to the dams dropped off to nothing. Caught the majority of my beaver in footholds on drowners this fall before the ice up... Bridger no.5s, Duke no. 4s and TS-85s.

For a man that can compress 330 springs by hand as easily as you do, that 85 shouldn't be any trouble for you. 👍

Actually the TS 85s are kind of weak compared to other footholds I use. I think they need to make some beefer springs for them.

Love those TS 85’s. My favorite foothold for beavers. I prefer 10 ft. of #2 chain connected to an earth anchor over the drowning rods though. It’s much less bulk and weight to drag around in my experience. Thanks for the great video.

I've had the same problem with dam breaks being ignored recently. So, I tried puttting a castor mound very close to the break. The combo has been working very well.

I looked at the ts 85. I went with the Duke pro 850's. The reason i like the cast jaws. And there well built traps. I run mostly bridger #5. I bought some of the CRD beaver traps. I haven't used them yet.

I love the TS-85s, but if you like big traps, you should try the Sleepy Creek #4 1/2 LS, 7 1/2" foothold trap. Talk about a big foothold, it would make a good man trap, it would probably hold a bear as well. But be sure to buy the setting tool for it, I don't know anyone who can set these traps by hand. Although I don't know anyone but you, who can set a Conibear Trap by hand either. That's why I say it would be a great man trap, nobody can get out of it by themselves without the tool. I can stand on both springs with my 160 pounds and not even budge the springs. If you get one, and can set it by hand, be sure to make a video on it to amaze your fellow trapper friends. I will be one of those who drops their jaw to the ground after seeing it. Although I was pretty impressed when I saw you set a Conibear by hand.

Nice front foot catch. Here in New York State Beaver foot traps can’t be any larger that 7 1/2 in. and we can’t alter the dams or lodges in any way. But I do well MB -750s and 330 Body-grips and some #4 long springs. Enjoy your trapping and outdoor videos vert much.

Thank you for sharing. I've never used drowning rods before. Sure looks simple and effective. I use drowning cables and sand bags. Think I'm going to try them in Spring. Takes me three times as long to put my sets in.

I love the TS 85. I use them with Chip McCormick's expand-a-pan. I don't need a drowning rod. I long chain the trap and the weight of the trap drowns the beaver. Nice video.

I had 2 sprung dam break sets first night. Reset and kept checking. No beaver ever came back to repair the massive holes I ripped in the dam. I think they get smart. I'm going back next week to see if they ever fixed the damn. It's been about 3 weeks.

the ts85's are awesome ,running a dozen of them for beaver this season. can't wait till duke comes out with their 850 this spring . tell the guy you got them from not to put expand a pans on them ,we did on ours and it caused to many misses . switched back to the factory pans and don't have the miss problems .dan got one on his thumb trying to reset after a catch and did not get all the mud off the levers and got him . trust me,they lock up good left a dent in his thumb .getting a machine shop to build us some setters . bridger #5 springs can be put on them to 4 coil them and they become a beast of a trap for sure.

I tried something last week, that almost worked perfectly. It might be great for this beaver dam too. I set up a 330 on a castor mound set, but about 12" in front of the 330, I set a foothold on a drowning rod. My thought process was that beaver #1 comes in, gets caught in the foothold, then drowns as planned. This leaves the 330 to now take out beaver #2 on the same castor mound. I set up a cell trail camera to see how it worked. I could hardly sleep as the photos started rolling in just before midnight. I got beaver #1 in the foothold, exactly as planned, but beaver #2 never showed up. Though it didn't work, it was set up to work perfectly. I'm wondering if you've ever tried anything like that and if you've ever had success.
