[macOS Sierra] How to fix “App is Damaged Can’t Be Opened” Error Message

“App is Damaged Can’t Be Opened” Error Message in mac OS Sierra is a common error when you try to install a non-AppStore app. See this tips to fix fix it easily
1. Open a Terminal with appropriate privileges (“sudo bash” to make you root on most systems)
2. Enter the following, substituting “AppName” with the real name of the app:
xattr -cr /Applications/AppName.app
3. Press Enter to run the command.
This should remove the flag currently set on the app.
Here is a related tip for macOS Sierra. The option to allow apps from anywhere has been removed. Well, hidden actually.

This is great. You saved me some time. May I add if the App has long name with spaces in between such as "Mission 1", it should be placed in quotations followed by app suffix. (example xattr -cr/Applications/"Mission 1".app) Without the above the filing system would not know where the file is. Thanks for unmasking the command. Regards from Qatar

or you can put a backslash before the space. ex: xattr -cr/Applications/"Mission\ 1".app

Thank you! Worked like a champ. However.. My app was in a sub directory not in /Applications, so I presumed I had to add that sub directory to the Path mentioned below. When that didn't work I temporarily moved the .app to the main Applications directory, but its still didn't work and I get the command not found error. Finally I removed a space in the name so the apps name was all 1 word, and presto, it worked. Took some tinkering, but I got it, so THANK YOU very much!

If it's Kontakt you need to get it out of the Native Instruments folder in applications. Just put Kontakt in the applications folder itself. (change the name from kontakt 5 to kontakt)

He miswrote the actual command in the subtitles. ZOOM in and read what he wrote in the actual terminal window. (XATTR instead of Xatrr and also Applications instead of Application.) That should help. It worked for me.
