Paired w/ the Canon R6 and the RP, this is a great, sharp, fast lens for the price. But would I buy it, given how I shoot and the lens lineup I currently have?

I’m in a budget so I’ve been rocking the RF 85 f2, the 35 and 50 1.8. I’ve been digging this trio so far. However I’m thinking about giving that rokinon 85 a try. Great review sir and congrats on 1k🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

Thank you for your review. I recently purchased my 85mm f2 Macro lens for family and wedding portraits. It’s been great! I’ve even gotten some really sharp business portraits with this lens however I still prefer my RF 50mm f1.8 for most indoors business portraits. I also use the RF 35mm f1.8 on occasion however I do find myself using it less and less.

Thanks for sharing! The 35mm served me really well for a long time, but recently I've been opting wider for 28mm options. And very much hear you on the 50mm. I still like my Samyang 85mm when I have space (though would recommend this Canon version almost exclusively now that the Samyang is no longer sold) but same here. I find I reach for the 50mm indoors.

Trying to put a slight twist on reviews by focusing on the lens in a deeper context and over time (for the ones I own). I love watching the bigger channels reviews things on embargo day just as much as anyone, but a lot of times those reviews in a vacuum aren't the best for making purchasing decisions or for comparing for different use cases.

@@DanYosua that's great. I was surprised that canon r6 has a way of setting time on bulb mode. Most reviewer focussed on over heating and failed to cover bulb mode timer and automatic focus stacking or touched on timelapses. These camera have great features that we miss coz of bad reviews.

For those doing a lot of freelance video I understand why as the overheating is annoying. I haven't covered it much here because I hardly run into it as a photo-first shooter. I do frequently get a throttled time limit when recording these vid... usually can only shoot 5 or 10 minutes in 4k after the initial 29:29. And I hit it occasionally in hot environments when shooting quick clips which is unnerving when shooting paid work. But I've kept my RP for this reason so far.

una preguanta,, el 85mm f2 macro va muy lento en el enfoue de video ¿es normal? tarda bastante en enfocar..
@DanYosua
@DanYosua 6 ай бұрын
(usando Google Translate) Sí, este y el macro de 35 mm tienden a enfocar más lento de adelante hacia atrás. Y probablemente se nota más en el vídeo cuando se seleccionan dos puntos con mucha distancia entre ellos.

Hi Dan! Do you take photos of cars ? I'm debating between the rf 35, rf 50, and the rf 85mm lens *affordable versions* For car photography I still have my Canon Eos RP with the 24-105mm stm lens with a hood on it
@DanYosua
@DanYosua 2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I never have, so I don't want to weigh in too heavily... do you find you favor one end of the 24-105 and are looking for more light and separation?

@DarkestKnight2424 2 жыл бұрын
@@DanYosua I'm not very sure yet. I have found I use 35mm and 50mm more often than 85mm zoom in. I want the photos to be more clear than anything I'm still new to photography so my knowledge of shutter speed, light etc is a bit limited haha
@DanYosua
@DanYosua 2 жыл бұрын
@@DarkestKnight2424 This is a less fun answer than which to get next, but it sounds like it might be good to spend a bit more time with the 24-105 to see if you can figure out more about what you might want. All of those lenses will let in more light and provide more subject/background separation when wide open (at the their respective focal lengths). If you don't feel like you need that at the moment and want to be sure of the next addition, it might be good to learn more about each. If you are shooting moving vehicles and want to make sure the images are sharp, try experimenting with faster shutter speeds to eliminate any unwanted blur.

@@DanYosua yes that last part is what I want to explore more of ! Taking shots of moving vehicles. I will spend more time with the 24-105mm zoom lens to try and pin point what it Is exactly that I want. I will experiment more with the shutter speed as well. Thank you @Dan Yosua !

Hello Master Dan: Please help and give me some advice, The camera I am currently using is Canon EOS R10, The kit lens used with it is (RF-S18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM) My main subject matter is toy photography. The secondary shooting content is street photography or portrait photos. Now I want to buy new lenses, after watching your video, Want to compare between Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM and RF85mm F2 Macro IS STM After making a choice, I would like to ask you to give me some advice on which lens is more suitable for me? Thank you.
@DanYosua
@DanYosua 4 ай бұрын
No master here lol. Both should be usable for what you’re doing - I think your biggest consideration should be whether you need/want the half macro for toy photography. I’d guess you might? But the 50mm is cheaper, smaller, and might be more versatile for other work.

@DanYosua 2 жыл бұрын
This is probably a good fit, particularly because you'll be able to get close on fine details and it will be a decent portrait length. Also, given what you are shooting, any AF focusing speed annoyance should be kept to a minimum. Not a true macro, but probably a good, cheaper substitute for the 100L's. And still fairly compact to pair with the RP.

@DanYosua
@DanYosua Жыл бұрын
If you need a true 1:1 macro I might look at the 100mm options. But otherwise, this will get you pretty close. You may run into a bit of the focus searching with this lens if you need to rely on AF and plan to keep it wide open. Otherwise, particularly if you are stopping down and focusing manually, this would allow you some close up shots from a nice distance away.

@@DanYosua Thank you. Will EF 100mm macro be a better option to pair with Eos R?
@DanYosua
@DanYosua Жыл бұрын
@@sushantsaxena5071 I think it depends if you need a true macro. When I had the ef 100L, it was working great with the adapter on the RP. But I wasn't using it as a true macro too often, more as just a long prime. And I actually missed the extra reach I had with it on my t7i crop sensor. Another benefit of the 85 is the IS. So if you were looking at the non-L EF, you'll have to consider whether you'll ever want that as well
