Tip... don't use this, use a hotshoe mounted flash that will actually provide sufficient light for the shot. Far better than using one hand for a light and the other for your camera.

The problem is that when your lens is that close to the subject it blocks the flash from reaching it

@@coleclementi9494get a diffuser, attach it to your lens. then the light will refract and reach the subject regardless of the lens blocking it.

Bro I’ve been doing phone flashlight with my lens off my camera and turned backwards held by hand lol it’s tough but rewarding. Lenses are expensive.

get a prime lens and flip it. it's cheaper. Then use the light source as described

Not amazing tip. Try it and you will see, once you close down the aperture to F8 or F11, that light won't work. You must use a speedlight or studio light.
