Just a quick comment from the author of this video. First off I'm happy that this video has helped out so many of you over the years. I'm truly humbled. Beside all of the programming feature Rt systems offers I want to share another possible side benefit. Recently I acquired a used Alinco DR-435. When I received it appeared to be broke with me being unable to change the radio out of the channel mode into the VFO mode. Furthermore it didn't respond to their factory reset by holding down the F key and then turning on the radio. I was almost ready to throw this radio away because it wasn't responding. Then I thought I'd try RT Systems to see if I could get into the radio that way to make it respond normally. It worked!!! If you have a radio that isn't acting normal and not responding to a factory reset, try RT Systems. I can't guarantee that it will work for you but it fixed my Alinco. Best 73, David K9AT Formally K9RUF :)

I'm new to amateur radio, having just earning my Tech license in June. After going nuts try to program my radios, I discovered RT system for my Icomn2730. I ike it so well I was able to customize programs for our travels to Northern, NY, Easter PA, all the way down to Richmond, etc. I just plug the cord into the computer, and the radio, hit the "Send Data to Radio", and I'm all set for the entire ride. I like it so much I have programs for the Icom, my TYT TH-9800, my Kenwood 72, even my Baofend UV82. Look at it this way, it's the same as ordering dinner delivered to your house, or cook an entire meal!

Glad you enjoyed the presentation. I'll give you a special tip for your radio. If your ICOM is like other newer ICOMS you can create that favorite channel list for a geographic area, load it into the radio, then save the configuration with a name on your SD card. Then create another channel config for a different area and save it as well. What this does is gives you more channel number options instead of being limited to one main list. Now go on the road and when you enter lets say Pennsylvania you would load up the previously saved Pennsylvania set. Does that make sense? Best 73 David

I loved the video! I will not buy a radio without buying the RT Systems set of SW and cables! One thing that David only gave a few seconds to is the ability to do this: I buy a Yaesu radio (pick your model) and get all my channels programmed in. I get another radio, lets say an Anytone radio. I buy the RT Systems software and cable for it. I then can open both Yaesu radio RT Systems program as well as the Anytone RT Systems programming tool and here is the time saver... I can copy and paste all the channels directly from one RT Systems program to another!!! Say what?!! Yes! RT Systems KNOWS which columns are used with which radios and copies the appropriate data to the appropriate columns!! TALK ABOUT A TIME SAVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're right!!! I learned that by accident when I had a channel set of VHF/UHF frequencies for an ICOM HT. When I tried to copy and paste the same channels into an UHF radio with a different RT Systems it would only accept the UHF frequencies since that is what that radio was capable of. Smart!

I've been using RT Systems programming kits for years. Whenever I give someone a new radio, I always include the appropriate RT Systems programming kit with it, along with a file for the radio that another ham created with all of the frequencies for the repeaters in our area. I've given away maybe 55 radios along with these kits. What you didn't include in the video, was that you need to first "Get Data From Radio", then, once you've done that, you then need to "Send Data To Radio". If you don't at first, "Get Data From Radio", you can't try to "Send Data To Radio", as it won't send it.

Well I would double check to make sure that the frequencies you are putting in there will work on that radio for instance if you have a Fusion radio I would delete the DStar repeaters. Otherwise it’s kind of handy to have a lot of frequencies even though you may not need them because you may travel and if you have your HT with the frequencies and you’re good to go. 73

David, I have the cd and cable and use it on my desktop and laptop. Now if I want to put the software on a Microsoft surface pro tablet how do I go about doing that as the tablet does not have a cd drive?
@MacsForever1
@MacsForever1 5 жыл бұрын
You can but a CD player at Best Buy or where ever for under $50 and it should work on your Surface with the USB connector. If the CD player comes with a bifurcated USB cable you may need to provide extra power to run the CD player with a USB power adapter like one that comes with an iPad. Another option is you might try calling RT Systems since their programs are now mostly downloads and as long as they verify with them that you bought it as a CD they might allow you to download the program to install it. No guarantees, just an idea. Hope that helps. David

If it is Version 5 as denoted on the face of the CD, you can download from www.rtsystems.us/software using the serial number and e-mail address you used for the original installation. If it is a Version 4, - You can purchase an external CD drive - You can map to a shared CD drive on your network. Be sure to do a full mapping with a letter designation on the receiving machine. Then the installation can be completed from that letter drive on the machine that lacks the CD drive. - You can upgrade at a discounted price to Version 5 which is downloadable and designed for your exact situation. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with RT Systems. Did you reach out to their free tech support during that 6 hours of frustration for help? Does Chirp have software for the ID-52 yet or are you still waiting for it? Also when ICOM releases a new firmware for that radio or the other 512 radios that RT Systems has software for, does CHIRP update their software to work with the new versions of firmware like RT Systems does? With almost 20K views and 66 positive comments in the past 4 years, you must be a troll looking to get a rise our of me. I'm not going to take the bait because like others I believe in RT Systems software because, it's simply the best. Finally that radio you just bought costs $650.00 and you don't have another $38 to buy real software. Seriously...

I have used RT systems to program a TYT UV MD-380, and It cheats you. The radio does NOT have ONLY 16 Channels per zone - that is the MD 380 (UHF only) The UV MD 380 has 64 channels per zone : A - 32 and B 32 = 64. Also, it doesn't accept the TG for Echo Test/Parrot in the Digital Receive group so If you use EchoTest / Parrot to hear your voice - you won't hear it because the program doesn't accept it in the Digital Receive Group. The original CPS does not even have updates. It messes up the digital side of the programs like changing the talkgroups on its own - even after you have programmed and saved it. Now, the good points - I use RT Systems to program my FTM400XDR and my Icom 880-H D-Star Radio and it works fine.

Not sure what you mean. The interface has stayed the same and that's a good thing from a familiarity standpoint when you buy their software for another radio. They keep adding new radios as they come along too. And beyond that point they have to keep updating their software as radio manufactures develop new firmware otherwise their software will stop working. So let's give them credit as a great company that supports the amateur radio community.

The fact you need to buy a separate license for each radio is cringe worthy. . .
@MacsForever1
@MacsForever1 3 жыл бұрын
Wonder if you've ever owned or run a company, because without revenue coming in, their doors would close. The software they make is customized to each radio involving many software man hours of develop. Knowing that they charge what I think is a nominal fee for all that their software can do for each radio. In many cases the radio being programmed uses a standard USB cable so the price is half of what an RT Systems program and cable would cost. Finally they circle back and make changes to the original code to ensure their software keeps working with the many firmware version changes that radio manufactures make. I think what they make is well worth the price.
@thepacketnarc7634
@thepacketnarc7634 3 жыл бұрын
@@MacsForever1 I'm not arguing that point Dave. I also feel the nominal cost of the tool is worth the time savings it affords me . . I'm also a consultant; so by very nature of that, I believe in "Monetizing one's knowledge". . . However, This isn't a massive rewrite of the entire code base, to accommodate programming an FTM-300 vs. a FT3D for instance. My point is that most every other software developer understands and employs the concept of "plugins" to add or remove functionality consistent with the users Use Case. . . I feel like they could probably quite easily create a Yaesu Universal and Icom Universal version, as easily as they have created "separate" versions for each radio.
@MacsForever1

@@thepacketnarc7634 Point taken. Well I guess once they figure out the first radio within a manufacture, then the rest probably share a similar software hooks. Regardless I feel their price is reasonable. Best 73
