"Fits on table" is a rarity I appreciate so much in board games these days

Quick review of the expansions for anyone that wants em Carnage at devils run: it's literally just more tiles for more randomization, more roads too. A perfect expansion for anyone who loved the base game Choppe shoppe: this expansion adds special player powers and upgraded cars that make you feel like an actual warmonger leader type trying to rip across the road with your crew of specialized cars It's great for anyone looking for a slightly advanced game Big rig and the final 5: This expansion feels tricky to review because these unique vehicles you get to drive can feel very unbalanced in certain situations and due to how the game works it feels like those situations happen often and on top of that they don't even let you use the choppe shoppe expansion with this one It feels like a really good idea that needed just a tad more work The only expansion that I wouldn't call fantastic BONUS TIME: The extra ammo mini expansion is an amazing Lil bonus that feels best described as just Hey, that idea from the cutting room floor could just be a pack of cards Which might sound like a negative, but it's not it's great it's just a bunch of small ideas that just aren't worth a full mega expansion like Hey, this card means these roads are windy This card says I have a one use missile This card says I have to make sure so and so doesn't make it off this road For less than 20 bucks, it adds a lot of nice little things It's like good icing on an already fantastic cake

I too can suffer from the choice paralysis, and I think "review just the base board game by itself, worry about expansions later if ever" is a good point to focus on. The base game should stand on its own merits.

I play a tabletop called gasslands. Its a miniatures game that doesnt sell anything other than the rules. You kitbash everthing, go get some hotwheels and start gluing bits of scrap to them

As a fan of the original Thunderroad, I was very wary of the re-make, While it was not perfect the original, was often a palette cleanser after a heavy gaming night or all-day-a-thon. it was light and quick and did enough to have us rolling about laughing as he blew each other up etc. I mainly backed the re-make for just some extra boards some newer models and didn't give it too much thought. then I played... and I have to admit it improves on the original in almost every regard. I wanted Thunderroad to be a simple no-brainer and it still was, but it just had more options, better options, it was well designed and the mechanics were brutal in the push-your-luck style, and the delicious hilarity when everything backfires. I truly love the original and not just for nostalgic reasons, but thunder road vendetta improves it in every regard.

Regarding the cards at 13:38 - Let it be known that the card modules are not in the base game! It's from the ""Extra Ammo" mini-expansion, sold separately.

One of my favorite things about this game is that because the finish line appears once 1 player is eliminated, that 1 eliminated player won't be out of the game for too long.

Remember if you need to calm him down again, a few days being a worm tends to work.

This was an impulse buy for me, expensive one to that but the box and content sang to me like a siren! And Im glad it did, this game is such a good time!

As a MAJOR fan of Rock 'N Roll Racing, myself, you sold me on this game just by that alone, lol.

I had this game back when I was a kid. I don't remember how it played at all. I only remember the track, the cars, and the attack helicopters. And the d6 that only goes to 3 (one of the few pieces of the old game that I still have). This definitely looks like a fun upgrade to all that, and I really want to see what the expansions do.

This reminds me of the old Games Workshop game Dark Future, which I used to play years ago. That had a similar rolling road, plus shooting cars, and explosions, but it actually came out a couple of years after the original Thunder Road. Incidentally, I googled the lethal dose for whipped cream from a can, and it's 8 squirts. I haven't gone back and counted how many squirts Matt ate in this video but he survived until the end so I assume it was seven or fewer.

We played this last night with some of the expansions (my buddy had got the kickstarter edition) and it was an absolute riot.

Played the original Thunder Road with my friends a bunch of times in college ("There is no mercy on Thunder Road!"). This was a great revisit of the game.

Such a great fun game. In my experience people often do the “cool stupid thing” rather than the boring strategic thing. Can recommend the ‘carnage at devils run’ for more road boards and hazards, and the ‘choppe shoppe’ if you want a slightly more strategic game where each car becomes more unique.

Thunder Road was my game night's opening. Easy to explain, quick to play. Perfect if someone's running late.

I just learned that the hiss of instant cream dispensers is the sound I hate and despise the most out of all the sounds that exist in the world... Aside from that, I found Thunder Road to be very easy, very simple, very quick, and very fun. Certainly never regretted backing that particular KS.

Matt, the lighting you did on the board for the close-ups is spectacular!

I love pulling this one out with the expansions because it's simple and chaotic, but provides players plenty of choice on how they want to race. If you want to rush ahead, you know you're going to be dealing with choppers and random hazards. Try to hang back some and take out other cars? You'll have to get ahead of them at some point to win. And the game ending pretty quickly after the first player is out means there's not a lot of downtime for them sitting out.

Missed opportunity to use silver cake spray to chrome up.

I REMEMBER THIS GAME! So happy to see it remade. I started to think it was a fever dream that it existed. 😂 it's been 40ish years since I played the hell out of it.

I completely understand the “choice paralysis” with a game with several expansions, this is one of the first games I’ve seen that seems so small and straightforward that I WANT more of it, expansions with cool new cars and sandstorms and DINOSAURS!

This is great! Also, was the donkey stealing your water a reference to that one fugitive donkey that kept messing with Quinn's side of the demilitarized zone?

Matt being without clothes is all fine and sexy, but that mustache-makeup combo... He looks a bit like Alice Cooper had a little too much influence on Groucho Marx.

Rock & Roll Racing only had 4 songs, but the game was AMAZING! I still compare modern games to it for top down racing. So Fun!

I was thoroughly and happily surprised by how much I enjoyed this game, and by how much of the theme really comes through while playing. It has been a blast every time I've had a chance to play, and is one I am always happy to see hit the table.

I look forward to your videos almost as much as I appreciated Matt saying "Don't worry, I'll be keeping my clothes on for the rest of the video"! Thanks for all the great work!!!

The box looked like a complete flavor win but since the pandemic it’s been so difficult to get people onboard with learning a crunchy game. Good to know this plays how it looks and seems to be a set up, learn the rules, and start playing in ten minutes type.

got this one months ago and we just have a blast with the game, really want to the big 5 extension.

I love Matt for doing this review. I adore this silly game! It's my Game of the Year for 2023, having gone all-in on the Maximum Chrome edition KS, and with the new Carnival of Chaos expansion set to fulfil before the end of the year, I can comfortably make an agreement that it qualifies for my Game of the Year for 2024 as well. It's so wonderful to teach new players and see them just get the game right away! At our local convention, I played it three times over the three days, with all new players each time and had so much great fun every game. The final game was just before the convention closed when a dad asked if I'd teach him and his two kids. Me and the two boys each killed one of dad's vehicles before the end of the first round of the game, resulting in so much loud laughter from all four of us, as well as a few viewers on the sidelines.

Delightful game! As soon as I played it, I knew I had to get one!

About friggin time for a Thunder Road Video

I own the Gaslands Refueled book and ThunderRoad. I've yet to play Gaslands because the rule book is pretty large and I have to kitbash all my hot wheels cars first, which means 3d printing or buying or making guns, missile launchers, etc. So for those saying you just rather play Gaslands, that's because you already know the rules and have taken the time to make all the cars. For those choosing which to get into first, ThunderRoad you can play immediately with what you get and simple rules. Gaslands, will take some time to grok the rules, make the cars, make some terrain etc. I also feel like those playing Gaslands, you have to have your own cars you're building, know the rules well, etc. ThunderRoad you just show up, I teach you and we're off! I am keen to play Gaslands but ThunderRoad will get played more for me because it's more approachable for my game group. Cheers!

I had the original version of Thunder Road when I was kid. A long long time ago. Fun little game.

I remember getting the original board game for Christmas one year. I played it for a few months. I don't remember getting rid of it. My mom must have donated it one day when I wasn't looking. Glad to see it lives on.

Oh I remember playing rock and roll racing as a kid on christmas, or maybe some clone of it, in the early 90s. It's been a while since they got into full on costume.

This is my favorite beer and pretzel game. Pure chaos. The only expansion I really recommend is the motorcycles, which are fun and let you get a fifth player. Keep it simple!

Rock 'N Roll Racing is the first thing I thought of as the intro to the game was being described. It has also now made it onto the list of games I'd like to make a spiritual successor to in my career as a game dev.

I remember having and loving the original game when I was a kid (yes, I am that old). Obviously, the game has been made a bit more complicated (read: deeper), but from this review makes it seem even more fun. Additionally, my group also still loves playing the Car Wars card game, and we are always on the look out for another copy of it...and Plague and Pestilence. So if anyone has a copy of one or both, let me know.
