You have absolutely nothing to regret! The most Lyran possible solution to any challenge is to completely ignore the cost of munitions and logistics, and then throw as much ordinance and tonnage down range until everyone gives up and goes away. (Why is YooToob eating my responses lately!?)

Stalker is a great mech who absolutely deserves its own video. I completed the last couple of missions of Mechwarrior 5 with a lance of quad Stalkers, and earned my "50 tons under max tonnage" achievement easily this way.

Excellent video. I’m a huge fan of the Archer, and Earthwerks stuff in general. Mechs that don’t look like sleek hot rods. Mechs that are just fancy enough, without getting too carried away with it. Mechs that look like they’re built to be shot, instead of just shoot. The square body trucks of the mech world.

This may surprise absolutely no one, but I'm a big fan of Snords Irregulars. I have joked about Ketchup being out of stock in the Inner Sphere because of Snords Irregulars on several occasions, and in several videos and the reaction is always like mine would be. "Yeah, sounds about right."

I love how in Battletech they use mech designs that are 700+ years old, and even some of those original mechs still functional even, and they’re still viable on the battlefield. That’d be like if we still used trebuchets and catapults today (no pun intended). Its not a criticism of the universe, but a fascinating aspect of its world building.

That's actually not that hard at all! It's a modified 2S with the back of the cockpit carefully cut to make room for a window unit A/C. The Paint job changes at least once a month since things keep crashing into it (A running gag) But it's been painted plaid just long enough to make the owner of Parallax Paint and Body lose his mind.

My favorite Archer build would be dumping all the LRMs and replacing with SRMs then up the armor and heatsinks. Gotta put those battle fists and MLs to work you know.

There's something about Inner Sphere mechs that sometimes call out to you "I want to punch things with my giant frickin' robot." And there are some that know how partial I am to massed SRMs and cackling madly while unloading volleys.

You forgot to mention Rhonda Snord's dad Cranston. A great plant from wolfs dragoons who claimed to be just looking for historical artifacts while acting as spies and looking for lostech and, like Jaime Wolfe was doing on a larger scale but with less subtle methods. Besides, Rhonda was hot as a kid and anybody who thought Natasha Kerensky was the hottest mechwarrior in the inner sphere really needs a lesson in what 13 yr old boys want. For those unfamiliar the book is called Cranston Snord's Irregulars and it was one of the earliest narrative campaign supplement battletech books after the release of Mechwarrior (the RPG, it used to not be a video game) but what do I know I am a grognard?

This may not come as a surprise to anyone that knows my material, but I absolutely love Snords Irregulars and the entire premise (on the cover of it, naturally) "We will do what we are paid to, but we will do it our own way and steal all the shinies on the way out." Do a bit about it. Not Rhonda but Cranston! The changeover from mercenary looters to clan spies was a nice save by the last days of FASA and the beginning of the end for a lot of players. I think it is significant because, only a mercenary COMPANY reflected an entire shift in the story-line.

I don't know if you read it yet but I can help with a lot of podcasty-stuff from afar except the video part because this a very old broken computer for anything 'good' (definition? SIri please? 'oh sorry: good/adjective/a thing that does not suck' thank you Siri that was helpful) . Mostly sound edits or voice-acting silliness and I have plenty of time if you want tsome help from afar. Not my favorite missile centric mech, but a solid one that works well. And we can't always rely on the biggest, meanest, or flashiest LRM boat to be available. I also always forget that this actually has more tubes than a catapult along with being bigger.

So, I will say that the Archer, Catapult, Trebuchet, and the Longbow all fill distinct niches withing the long range fire support roles. The Archer is the brawler of the bunch, the most suited to front line combat or just behind the front line. The Catapult is much more maneuverable with its jump jets, and is particularly suited for strike and fade or urban combat. The Trebuchet has the most dynamic niche of the bunch. Its speed allows it to keep up with lighter elements for hit and run strikes with enough medium lasers to be dangerous at that weight range. Fire support for commando raids. The Longbow is better suited for sustained combat with its heavy armor and banks of heat sinks. This is the mech you want for attrition combat where its slow speed isn't an issue and you just need sustained firepower at long range.

Thank you for elaborating on this! I will admit that would have been a very hard explanation to fit into a video and keep it under 15 minutes. I really want to keep this all sort of brief and still be fairly informative. The next script is looking to be about 16 minutes but I kind of have to touch on the Skye March... which is ... one of those places we seldom talk about and you absolutely lock your doors in case of another uprising. (Sometimes with two for one specials) I am a big advocate of mechs for the jobs they fit well in. And some mechs fit well in a specific niche entirely on accident. And as much as I make fun of one of my friends, a generalist mech or two in a lance is still very important. All of that being said, I do hope that you enjoyed the video, my dear friends in Task Force Melted Crayon helped make this what it is. It was absolutely a team lift.

the archer is one of my favorites, others are the king crab, the trashcan the marauder II of course the laserboat hunchback. cause nothing is better than onshotting the enemy and then reloading a new pilot for the one that just had a heatstroke XD

Man. The Marauder II is a LOT of stomp in a marauder shaped package. And the jump jets make it gracefully lumber through the air in much the way that a Waffle House doesn't.

@@madducks3867 try the marauder 2 with shotgun PPC's and jumpjets. that genuinly oneshots nearly all the heavy mechs and quite a few assaults, though you have to know when not to alpha cause heat will burn you on that build.

Not a bad goal. So here's what you do. You 3D print the biggest one you can. Then paint it. Then you trick the entire world by inventing the shrink ray, shrinking yourself down, taking the picture, and then inventing the unshrinking ray. This plan is completely foolproof.

The thing I always found weird about the archer is that almost every variant wants to upgrade it's (limited, but) generally alright brawling capabilities, while still retaining at minimum 2 lrm15s. I personally am of the opinion that, if you want to make an LRM boat brawl, you swap out almost if not all the LRMs for SRMs. Then again I also like to do things like trying to cram an AC20 in a champion or a Heavy Gauss Rifle into the Hunchback's Hunch, so take my opinion for whatever you think it is based on these descriptors.

Oh no, I absolutely agree with you! On one hand, LRMs are great for "you there, get off my lawn" and fists are for "Okay, you were warned." However, being a Lyran ... I mean c'mon we put SRMs on everything. Given half the chance we'd put SRMs on a waffle house. The Commando (My favorite light me, because it's adorably Lyran) is known for getting being bigger mechs and giving them an SRM enema. ...SRENEMA? ... no that's ... actually funny, but not the point. Also I believe that you can fit an AC/20 on a Locust. But firing it while on wet pavement would probably move you backwards a hex or two.

Man I just love giant stompy robots! I really want to do the Commando but it went from second on my list to fourth. Which is fair because I want to spread these around in the weight classes. The Word of Blake ARC-9W is my all time favorite Dark Age era updates to a classic IS mech. The number of plastic ones CGL has on the market has left me with 2 full lances of archers. Honorable mention to the ARC-4M2 , ARC-5CS, and ARC-9K.

I absolutely love the Archer. When you're fire support, it's not your job to go out and rack up kills, it's your job to keep your teammates alive. When someone gets bogged down you're lobbing copious amounts of LRMs over their shoulder, when you hear aerospace or tanks coming in, your job it so switch immediately to softening them up pronto because an ignored tank hurts a LOT. And when you combine the Archer with ludicrous amounts of ammo? Well I'm either going to use it all, or when I die you'll see it for MILES.

This Mad Ramblings is a project that I had in mind about four years ago (the script has just been sitting there, taunting me) and it took about a year to make. So Mad Ramblings has been on the back burner for a while and I'm incredibly happy to see it finally out there.

For sh*ts and giggles you can turn the Archer into a damn fine Arena Mech or Urban Combat/Close combat Mech by switching out the single Heat Sinks for Doubles, and replacing the LRM 20 racks with MRM 20 racks with CASE, or remove the two rear facing med lasers and put in MRM 30 racks with CASE because who doesn't love even more missiles.😜 A smoking crater where an enemy Mech once stood is a beautiful thing.😁

It's honestly just an all around decent mech. There are bigger mechs that specialize more, but as part of a four player group, being able to throw missiles nonstop is a very helpful thing.

@@madducks3867 yep, although funnily enough I found that most of the mechs in mw5 that I enjoy are between 50 and 70 tonnes so oddly enough I actually don't enjoy the late game as much... Then again that just gives me an excuse to buy 2 awesomes to fill out the ai lance late game

We are working on Mad Rambles part two: The firestarter right now, as it happens. We have all the art in and are starting work. These things take time, and since we don't have any sort of funding, it's a passion project. We should be finishing up on the next part soon. I even have a Firestarter playing flaming bagpipes. (I saw the Badpiper and ... well, this is me we're talking about.)

So real talk, my favorite thing about the quirky little dervish is the art from the old Starter box that I bought way back in the 90s (which was totally not that long ago) and the fact that no matter how you cut it, the Dervish looks 100.00% like an old G.I.Joe villian. i.imgur.com/Y4M1ZJA.jpg And once you notice it you can never unsee it.

@@Pistol-ve6ji I mean ... the Pompier is basically read to fill with hot chocolate. When I was in college "Tuba Hot Chocolate" was four gallons of hot chocolate and one gallon of Amaretto Whiskey. It shouldn't be too hard to scale that up? www.sarna.net/wiki/Pompier
