I was in a very dark time of my life when Mad Season entered my, "mad mind". I was on Meth, and Alcohol BAD!, Somehow, I had found the love of my life at this time and also lost her due to my usage. All of this was such a whirlwind to my demented psyche, I was in the deepest depression when she left, it hurt so bad, and these guys, especially Layne, seemed to be right where I was. I soaked in this music, drowned in the darkness, and suffered on dirty floor. About a year or so later I quit the dope cold turkey and have never looked back, the alcohol I put behind me a few years later. I still miss her, the love of my life so much, but what's done is done. I couldn't even listen to Mad Season for years after I got out of that hole, I was afraid of the dark if you will. But now, I can listen, and even appreciate in a new light, knowing I have traveled through such a scary place and came out of it in kinda one piece. I'm so sad that Layne couldn't get his peace here on earth. I hope he has it now.

Wow man, I can totally relate to your story. I'm in the process of trying to find my way in the world without drugs and alcohol. Music has always been my pillow or pistol. When I found out about Layne's passing, I was devastated. He was truly an angel trapped here on earth with souch pain to endure. But by the grace of God he was able to tell us as much as he could through his lyrics. I'll forever be one of his biggest fans. Not just the sound of his voice or his lyrics. But in all seriousness, the way he made me feel in so many different ways with the same song in different parts of my life. He will forever be adored and missed. R.I.P. Layne Staley

Born & raised in SeaTown, I was fortunate to see everyone from Mother Love Bone, Nirvana, PearlJam, Soundgarden, MudHoney, SuperSuckers, Melvins, Screaming Trees, Candlebox, Temple of the Dog, Alice in Chains in the late 80's thru mid 90's and this show, Mad Seasons, standing just left of center balcony level. watching many different band members from different bands descend down into their own abiss and prisons, weakening physically, emotionally, and vocally, but this was a very special night and show whereas a mutual appreciation between band and audience grew as the night progressed, and you could see a light on in Layne that i hadnt seen in some earlier AIC shows. It was truly a magically time to be alive, and to witness one of Rock's all time greats taken too soon from us.Enjoy and if you are suffering and dealing with addiction or mental health, talk to someone, be proactive and know there is hope and a better way to live!

David Walsh I am so glad to hear your story and that you are here to tell it as you know all too well also how many we have lost in the fight. And those who make it through like yourself and I are better people for it I believe. It has made me a more compassionate and open person today and owe alot of the success of my clean and sober living now to the music of yester year we all are appreciating here. Thanks again for your comment brother and keep up the good fight! You are an inspiraiton and keep telling your story you never know whos life you may savebecause of it.

Starling Grey, thanks for commenting. Unfortunately I dont have a clear cut answer for you, and anyone who says they do for you is delusional or lying. All I can say is what has and hasn't worked for me and what I've learned over the years from others fighting the fight or counselors and psychologists teach. First off I'd like to congratulate you on admitting you have a problem and you want help to fix it. Those are the first steps that are necessary to fighting this disease of addiction. From that point it depends on alot of factors what your past attempts include, there are many avenues each of us can take and each depend on us personally and the practicality of us moving in that direction. So much to try and explain here and unless I know your individual story I would just be wasting your time here trying to guess. If you are 100% interested in getting clean and sober and are committed to saving yourself, message me and if you like we can talk behind the scenes via email or other messenger service or eventually text or phone. I am always available for those fellow addicts that have questions or need guidance , we are all worth saving and it is possible for all of us to beat it and live a life worth living. Because as you know that is not anyway for anyone to live day to day. So i will leave it up to you Starling Grey and before you respond think long and hard if you're are serious and would like some help? This goes for anyone else that might come across this thread and be in the same situation feeling hopeless and without direction, message me here and we will see where we can go to talk more candid. Thanks again for your comment Starling Grey and hope to hear from you again.

@@talearingo248 if you are still struggling, I'll tell you what eventually worked for me. Go to the meetings and keep going back every week until you get there. It took me 2 years just to get to that point but I kept going back. I think that was the key for me. I've been straight for a little over 3 years now. There is no magic cure but if you can find you a program that works for you and stay dedicated to it, you will eventually be successful. Personally I chose Celebrate Recovery but there are many different types of recovery groups out there. Somewhere that will give you support and accountability is key in the early phases of recovery. Good luck man. It's well worth the journey!

They did a hell of a job with this re-issue, they recognized the passion of the fans and even if we never got a second Mad Season album this is a close second and it's great to hear Lanegan's songs, especially since he was there from the start and has suffered much of the same stuff.

If they ever did reunion shows, which I TOTALLY would see, the only line-up I would consider "right" would be Mike and Barrett, Mark on vocals and Ben Shepherd on bass. I say Ben because not only was the Soundgarden connection between Pearl Jam, AiC, and Screaming Trees so strong, but because he comes from a Jazz background as well as punk rock just like the late JBS.
