One of my all time favorite albums! Wake up is probably one of my top 10 songs of all times. Even tho the lyrics are about addiction, it can seemingly be applied to other topics as a metaphor! Incredible music. RIP Layne and Baker.

I have trouble listening to Above these days. There's too much sadness. Artificial Red is a solid blues number, but Wake Up and River of Deceit just hit too hard.

They also had a CD called "Winter" that you could buy from an ad in Hit Parader. I love Mad Season. There was a local TV show called Mike Pachillie (sp?) that would air on Channel 32 from midnight to 6am. He played guitar and showed music videos all night. The last 3hrs of his show was basically the first 3hrs replayed. So if you saw a video in the first 3hrs you saw it again in the last 3hrs. Thats how I found Mad Season, Our Lady Peace and my favorite Local H cause the radio sure as shit ain't playing them.

I love Jerry but at 04:31 right after a caller asks if there will be any future Mad Season music coming out- you can hear any audible “Pppptttt” from Jerry. It’s been said that Jerry was not very happy with this side project.. for various reasons. I would have loved to hear more Mad Season 🥀💙💀

In Jerry's defense it must be frustrating when your tour gets cancelled and then your singer pops up playing shows in some new band

@@rawkguy4896 good point.. I’m sure it had to be incredibly frustrating for Jerry as the band was in its prime and unable to fully capitalize. Also I’m sure he just wanted to play!

Definitely one of those projects that can’t happen without the singer. It’s cool that they played some of those songs live for people again. If anyone could pull it off it was Chris Cornell, but that’s of course not a possibility anymore.

One of the best albums to come outta the grunge era, from a damn supergroup no less. Most big time musicians egos are too damn big to be able to really come together and create something special, but how amazing this album really is, just goes to show how down to earth all these guys are and were.

In my opinion Above is the best album Seattle has ever produced. Yeah, Pearl Jam, Screaming Trees, AIC, Soundgarden, Heart, Jimi (yep he was from here), there are a bunch but that one is super chill with the same Seattle feel. Layne's voice is epic on it. Especially River Of Deceit.
