i'm just marveling at how far she's come. I grew up watching mad tv and always loved her characters. between mad tv and family guy she's been with me for years. excellent actress, one of the best comedic actresses ever.

Fact! And SNL cast uses cue cards too much, even professional and famous actors. This really does take away from the skit. Mad is just funnier and easier to watch.

I stopped watching SNL after they fired Chris Rock and Adam Sandler.

Is that why it was canceled after trying to make a comeback after trying to go pg? SnL is pretty hilarious. And still running longer than mad tv ever has. Don’t compare the two cause they aren’t anything a like. The character breaks in alot of skits is dead funny.

The main thing is SNL features prominent guests, which gives the station attention among Hollywood and DC. It has absolutely nothing to do with quality, and more to do with clout. MadTV did not have a high profit margin from advertisements by the end, which is what usually determines whether a network keeps a show. MadTV's poor ratings by the end were mostly due to cast changes; many popular members like Alex here having already left the show. A comparable show for Fox would be The Simpsons. It's profit margin is probably not nearly what it once was, but Fox wants to be known as the home of The Simpsons, regardless of whether people watch the show anymore. Like SNL, The Simpsons was also a home for Hollywood guests to be featured, and for a time in the 90s being a guest on The Simpsons was considered a career highlight like that of hosting SNL.

I kinda grew up watching MadTv and never cared for SNL. Then there's All That as well, sketch comedy for the kids.

After that, it was mildly amusing in the '80s, then became unwatchable by the '90s & has remained so. The really GREAT sketch comedy for kids (well, not just for kids) was the '80s show "You Can't Do That On Television".

FOX hated MadTV and resented its success. As soon as the ratings dipped they pulled it. MadTV never had any advertisement or press going for it. NBC on the other hand adores SNL and even at some of its worst moments the network still supported Lorne and his work. SNL bred stars, MADtv did not. SNL hit the cultural zeitgeist, MADtv was popular but focused more on lowbrow blue collar humor that seemed more juvenile as the years went on.

Aaron Toledo stereotypical would be having an Asian woman doing nails in a nail salon as she tries too communicate with her client in broken English and the client not understanding. What this is is laughing at a woman for a high voice and not understanding English too well which is racism. I would say you're the one who doesn't understand the difference

Nope. It is racist.

The character is not smart. The voice is supposed to sound funny and the language barrier is what the joke is 'going' to be about. But that's a diversion. It turns out she's stupid - like he's trying to get across the idea of skin color and she's like "yeah, it was a person". And there is nothing like over-explaining humor to kill it.

Oh come on guys. I had a Viet mother in law. She had a very heavy accent. I showed her this sketch and she laughed her ass off.

So making jokes about African Americans about fried chicken is stereotypical not racial? I don't think either is mutually exclusive of the other...
