It was originally by Tears For Fears in 1982. The Gary Jules version was initially released on Jules’ 1998 album “Greetings from the side”, then it was used in the 2001 film Donnie Darko and was on the soundtrack in 2002. It wasn’t released as a single until 2003, when it beat “Christmas Time (Don’t Let the Bells End)” by The Darkness to be Christmas number one.
