M.A.D. World - Episode 7: Warmonger | History Documentary
Watch 'M.A.D. World - Episode 8' here: • MAD World - The Histor...
In this episode:
In the 1980s, the US continues its mission to halt the spread of communism. A socialist leader takes over the Caribbean island of Grenada in 1983, Ronald Reagan sends in the Marines overnight. In Nicaragua rebel 'Sandinistas' fight the 'Contra' guerillas. In 1987, Reagan announces a new arms program dubbed ‘Star Wars’. Mikhail Gorbachev, the new president of the USSR, attempts to end the Cold War.
'M.A.D. World' takes a close look at the last time we were threatened by the might of world superpowers: The Cold War. For over forty years the entire world stood on the brink of annihilation, as the horrors of World War II ended and a new kind of global war began when the push of a single button could trigger all-out nuclear war. 'M.A.D. World' examines how the world was changed forever by the Cold War. Over eight episodes, remarkable footage from the time shows how the build-up of nuclear arms and the mistrust between West and East instilled terror across the globe. First-hand accounts bring the stories to life as we talk to pilots drilled to drop the bomb, families torn apart by the Iron Curtain, and escaped dissidents who lived in fear of torture and execution.

The Sandinista fought for the people, independence and the general welfare of the vast majority of the population. Developing countries like this could not get a leg up in the free world without a transitional socialist revolution and bleeding out of government corruption. The war was fought because we were brainwashed like children to fear socialism like the bogeyman. But rly these socialist movement were the only way these poor oppressed working class people could overthrow abusive, oppressive gang like governments. I wonder what they are like now, ever since Daniel Ortega made himself President-for-Life. All his sons are now senior Nicaraguan public officials. The last popular protests against the socialist government were utterly crushed, just as they were in Cuba. American foreign policy, intelligence operations, and military interventions have always been motivated primarily by US business and foreign interest. The US is no different from any other liberal democracy in the West that promotes international human rights. Just because the US offers support for democratic principles and appears to have a hypocritical foreign policy stance, it doesn't give other countries a license to emulate the US. Given its status as a global military and economic superpower and large number of allies, America might be able to get away with acts that another country could be sanctioned for attempting.

The Contras was not just one big rebel group they were made of multiple some groups were made of mostly former military under Somoza some were made of former Sandinistas who no longer believed in communism and defected, and some were made of indigenous groups that wanted nothing to do with the Sandinistas or Somoza I even think when it came to the word Contras, they did not like to be called that and some groups I think at the time that were fighting the Sandinistas were also communists but I think it was a small group and while not sure my guess is because they were Maoists or pro-Beijing which was seen across the globe at the time due to the Sino-Soviet split where some communists were fighting each other because one side was supported by the Soviets and another was supported by Beijing.

Contras weren't Samosa supporters. They were just farmers initially, who didn't want their land taken away as it was all they had. Eventually the number of Contra groups multiplied thanks to the support of the US, and... the fact that the sandinista government was at least as bad as Samosa's. In the end, most Contras were disillusioned former Sandinistas. Put another way, even the PRC and Romanian governments supported the Contras. Ortega was too nasty even for Nicolae Ceausescu to support. That's a hell of a thing.

Why is the United States always fighting against an incumbent government we did it in Afghanistan in the 80s we did it in Ukraine in 2014 we did it in Vietnam we did it in the Congo we did it in Libya every time of fighting against a guy he's the one that the people has put in power and we're saying he's bad because he doesn't share the same political beliefs as we do it's a trash excuse to hate on somebody else

They did it in El Salvador also and they want to do it again now that the country is finally getting better. They also want to do it to Mexico, its going to be interesting to see what happens next. Russians invaded Afghanistan, Ukraine, North Korea invaded the south(backed by Russia), North vietnam invaded the south. Don't act like the United States is just some rogue warmongers killing over political beliefs. Communism is evil, it must be eradicated at all costs. More people have died pushing communism than any invasions you just named combined. Facts.
