I love how Maddie and Tae are actually pointing out the problems in Country songs, people don’t get the fact that in this case we aren’t talking about real life we are talking about in songs. They are basically saying with this song, “How would you like it if you had to do this?” They are basically being made famous country singers by dissing famous country singers.

Before you check the comments section: 50% - guys trying to act offended by the video because they don't like being on the objectified side 25% - girls arguing against said offended guys 20% - guys saying girls who dress like a skank deserve no respect, completely ignoring the fact that the song is about women who are objectified like this IN A COUNTRY MUSIC SONG AND VIDEO AND NOT IN REAL LIFE, trying to have this whole "there are bigger things to worry about attitude." Because, you know, a couple of girls singing about how they're sick and tired of women being portrayed as submissive skanks in country music is just wrong and not country at all. 5% - people with bad grammar babbling incoherently

Pretty much, I'm personally not offended by this, because unlike most people, I am rational and actually realize that women are objectified every day. I the song is more about women being objectified in general, and not necessarily just in country songs.However, women being objectified in country songs is easily overlooked, because the songs are "all mushy and gushy" as my friend and I put it, but then rap and pop get all the shit for doing the same thing.

This song is not about the way "country" boys treat women. It is about the way country girls are asked to dress and act in country music videos today. Compare the way girls dress and act in an older video like "Dumas Walker's" to one today like "Drunk on a Plane" and you will see the difference. The three main guys in this video deserve an Oscar for their performance!

@johnr259
@johnr259 9 жыл бұрын
Jennifer Reinoehl you are right and wrong. The song references the way women are expected to look in music videos with jabs to guys considered "bro country". However there is a larger picture. The song in general is speaking out against women being objectified and having little choice in what they wear or how they act within country society and social norms. They are talking about transference. Meaning young women that grow up listening to country and watching video's only see one ideal and they have to look, dress, or act like these women. While I agree with the country duo, that there should be a dialog alteration that gives these young female audiences a choice... If you are really listening to most (not all) of the "bro country" artists lyrics...or are a guy born and raised anywhere in the south, you would understand that these male artists aren't so much objectifying women as they are empowering them. These males are telling a story of how a woman or women have such a power over their emotions. Yes the lyrics can be a bit primitive but if you really looked at it... It's insider trading for women.

Jennifer Reinoehl : If young people, both boys and girls, see videos with country boys treating girls like pieces of meat (aka "video vixens") then they will grow up to treat females this way. Like it or not. It's time to show a little more, or a lot more, RESPECT. Nothing "empowering" about being portrayed as an easy, interchangeable piece of ass. Good for this female country duo. "Can we put on some real clothes now?"

Lately the Rap (et al) group has been getting a lot of flack for their objectification of women, but there hasn't been much of a push in country music to do the same during this generation of country singer. Even your Taylor Swift types are still just singing their hearts out about attracting a country boy; nice to see a change.

I heard this song for the first time several years ago (10+ years). I was only able to listen to it a couple of times before my phone got lost. The memory had been stuck in my head for all of those years but I couldn’t remember the lyrics. I searched “two beautiful girls singing country song in a truck” and I found this. Now I’m squealing at 8am on a gloomy day watching my housemates wonder what is wrong with me. I AM HAPPY

I'm cracking up !!! So funny !!! But these girls are dead on.... Country music needs more songs that talk about a woman for her worth not her assets!!!! Conway and George strait.... Great line... CassCountyCountry ... Why such beautiful language there buddy... I think there are lots of great country songs out there on the radio... .... Funny ones, heartfelt, emotional, and they are written excellently....But painted on jeans, bikini tops, cut off shorts, long tan legs..... That's what these girls are addressing and tired of hearing about... The way in which these lyrics address "woman" is being addressed in the song above.... There is so much more to a woman than those several words..... and better ways to respectfully describe a woman.... I love country music and everyone's entitled to there opinion.. Personally I like hearing a song like Blake Sheltons ... My eyes... He's admiring a woman with respectful descriptions..... Or I Don't a Dance by Lee Brice.. or Who I Am With You by Chris Young... lots of excellent country songs.. but that's my opinion This song by Maddie and Tae is funny because it just shows the girls perspective of how's she's viewed in lots of country songs..., which is a long legged tan chick in a bikini top and daisy dukes..... you don't have to agree with me but your wording above is a little much...

CassCountyCountry Your use of the c*** word is quite revealing as to who is thick and doesn't get the message about "objectifying" women (i.e. reducing them to nothing more than a body part). Guess in your world that makes you a dick. This is a hilarious, well-written song with a message - too bad it is lost on you...

Yes. Lyrically, women are often treated like queens in most country songs. On the contrary, it is the men who are often dispensable and are the wrongdoers. Imagine if the gender roles were switched in "Think Before he Cheats" with the man vandalizing the woman's car because she cheated, that would have "lawsuit" written all over it. But if a woman does it, it's perfectly fine because it's "empowering". Double Standards much? Man in a country song.

@Daylen Coffman Bro-country songs are not about romance and taking a woman someplace nice. They are about one night stands (My Kinda Party) and taking women to dirt roads, riverbeds, cornfields, or just in the bed of their trucks (way to many songs to list.) They tell women to shake their ass and that that ass is why they want to be with them. Traditional country songs rarely did that, but this song is not addressing traditional country songs.
