I'm not American but I started liking a lot of country music recently but I haven't actually listened to Maddie and Tae. I really liked it, thank you for showing new music to me.

Trisha Yearwood has talked a lot about how country radio has changed since her and Garth came back to music. There are so many great female country artists that are never put on the radio, which was not how it was in the 90s. Female country artists were on the radio pretty equally to male artists, but now it seems that it is really only the most popular female country artists that even have a shot at being heard on the radio.

there was a radio consultant that set the precedent for that. "If you want to make ratings in country radio, take females out. The reason is mainstream country radio generates more quarter hours from female listeners at the rate of 70 to 75 percent, and women like male artists. The expectation is we're principally a male format with a smaller female component. I've got about 40 music databases in front of me, and the percentage of females in the one with the most is 19 percent. Trust me, I play great female records, and we've got some right now; they're just not the lettuce in our salad. The lettuce is Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton, Keith Urban and artists like that. The tomatoes of our salad are the females" so that's fun. also in radio play terms we're back to the 8 male songs 2 female songs. it's all annoying.

Yes!!! I literally listen to a mix of country and emo music. That's the stuff I'm into. My playlist will be Maren Morris and LoCash one moment and then motionless in white the next. Lol. This is awesome!!!

They are so slept on as a country duo. They are making some really well written songs, they can sing and they can play. I know a lot of others have suggested Die From A Broken Heart but you MUST listen, I think you will love it and it was one of my favourite songs released in 2019 and I can still listen to it on repeat and not tire of it. Also, watch the music video for Bathroom Floor after DFABH, if you plan on watching both videos.

Yessssss so here for more country music reviews!!! My fav genre. Refreshing to hear someone who is knowledgeable about country music be able to accurately describe the sexism problems within the genre, without having the conclusion be that the whole genre is like that. To add to the chorus in the comments, you MUST listen/react to Die From A Broken Heart. It's absolutely incredible, along with most of their work. After The Storm Blows Through, Tourist In This Town, and Drunk or Lonely are some other excellent songs.

I love the song and the video. And I'm really glad it crossed my path as they are some of my favourite artists. I remember really looking forward to their first album and they didn't disappoint. I have to give kudos to the three boys and their dedication, they really want all out. For what I read way back when the song came out they actually call out popular songs of that time. But none that I know as I mostly listen to the handful of country artists I enjoy and from time to time a new one joins the circus so most of the names or songs don't ring a bell. But even without it, the lyrics are poor poetry. I mean, "Shakin' my moneymaker ain't ever made me a dime, And there ain't no sugar for you in this shaker of mine"? Perfection.

If anyone wants to hear a more recent/modern country song that DOES NOT objectify women, check out Leave Her Wild by Tyler Rich. When my husband first heard it he was completely shocked and impressed with the lyrics and he loves to tear songs apart and make fun of them. It was amazing to watch him have nothing but good things to say about it.
