Great video Maddie, I fly out to Brisbane in 2 months for my first WHV from Canada. Have that excited nervous feeling going on lol. I'm also using the Monos Carry On Pro for my luggage which is a 46L size and then I have a small 25L day pack.

Great video! I leave November 3rd! Doing welcome to travel Sydney in the 13 but spending a week on bondi by myself just gonna explore. You after the tour I’ll either start working or check out Byron Bay for a few days, maybe I can find work there for a couple weeks. I really want to get my rural work out of the way though. Ahhh so much to think about. Thank you for the advice!

What makes your vlogs different (better) Madd's is that because you are well educated and intelligent, you can articulate your words and apply this into the information you give out. I'm guessing you're back home working hard to save for the next time away. If you need any help for the better side of OZ (the West), i'm here to help with whatever info you need to do your planning. be good and live life to the fullest while you can I say 😉😊

I’m an older Aussie that grew up in Brisbane and lived in Townsville,Sydney and currently Melbourne for the last 30 years. I also rent out a room short term in St kilda and get a lot of people on WHV renting it. I think everyone makes the mistake of bringing too many clothes. Just bring the basics and a lot of people will shop the second hand stores if they need something. If someone was visiting Australia for a few months and likes the beach culture etc I think your itinerary is pretty much on the money and they will go home satified that they have ticked off a lot of experiences on their list.

Hi Maddie. This is a great video👍🏼❤️🇦🇺 I’ve lived in Western Australia for 40 years and it’s not perfect but pretty damn close😊 Places like Ningaloo Reef, Broome, Esperance, Margaret River. Rottnest Island…has the Quokka, happiest animals on the planet. The beaches, the sunsets. Safe, spacious, friendly. The Sunniest capital city anywhere on Earth is Perth😁 I hope your stay is everything you hoped it would be. Btw… Boxed Wine was invented in Australia. Along with a heap of other important inventions😊

A lot off the bigger dairy farms employ backpackers in Vic, sometimes accommodation is also available. I am glad you enjoyed Aus. Tasmania is spectacular over summer, a real shame you didn't get the ferry over from Melb. Take care!

You can swim all of the way up to Port Douglas ,Just do not swim in the rivers & only swim in the netted areas & check if it is stinger season .in the North.

Stinger season and Tropical Cyclone (hurricane) season are 1 November to mid May. Cyclones are usually finished by 30 April. Crocodiles are all year round in northern Australia so please pay attention to the warning signs. Avoid swimming at night or in estuaries and rivers or creeks by the sea.

I am impressed with how you appeared to do the voice non-stop. I caught my attention for the whole 40 mins. I feel you should have put about half as much video in as you did. This would have allowed you to give longer clips about interesting shots. All in All great job. Grandpa Brian

Hi, thank you so much for this video, I'm planning to go to AUS and feel so lost with all the information and scared about the fact that I'm going in the most touristic season, your video made me calm down a little bit and I feel a little safer now as I have at least few information about cool hostels, trips that are worth the money etc. I still have one question about your booking with Welcome to travel: Did you build your own package or did you take one of the provided packages? And did the company join you the whole time or was it planned only for a weeks, since you talk about group activities at the beginning of the video and only about solo traveling and hostels tips at the end of the video. They are booking the hostels for you, right? So as a client you wouldn't be able to choose hostels..?

Im so glad this video helped give you some peace of mind :) I did their week long Welcome to Melbourne trip (with about 20 other people) and then they helped me plan the rest of my trip solo. They recommended certain hostels and gave me options based on what was available but most of the time I just did whatever they recommended because I had no idea which hostels were good and which weren’t! Let me know if you have any other questions!!

G'day, im an Aussie and we love Americans. Do not get confused with our university students, they're the same as yours, they hate everything including each other. Aussies call Americans "Yanks", its just a nick name and no malice is meant by it. It doesnt matter what side of the mason dixin line youre from, if youre American, youre a yank. And yes we do swear a lot, again no malice, sometimes even used as a term of endearment, eg a good person would be a nice bastard. Anyway God bless America but thank God for Australia.

I have friends from Tasmania that have been living in Brisbane for 10years and currently spending 6months holidaying in Florida and say Florida is way hotter than anything they have experienced in Queensland and will never complain about Queensland heat again , so if anyone is thinking of coming to Aus and can handle Florida heat then Aussie summers won't be a problem 😃. Also find it strange that where I have worked the last 19years we employ 20-30 people a year looking to do their 88days but in all that time not one American , lots from Canada , Chile, Germany, Italy , France, Sicily, England and Japan, but never an American , unsure why 😄

Yes Florida is HOTTTT. And it surprised me how few Americans I saw in Aus! And the majority of the few I did see were on tourist visas and not looking to work

Hmmm. Those big spiders aren't just rural. They absolutely love Eucalyptus trees anywhere. The REALLY big ones (bird eating spiders) live in the Far North. I lived with a Biologist in Cairns who had a pet one in a glass tank in his kitchen. Needless to say l never made a cup of coffee or cooked. Spiders. Bane of my existence!

Maddie when you said everyone hates you if you tell them that you come from the US as an Aussie I would be surprised and disappointed if people here thought like that. In my experience Aussies usually like people who come from the US. Regardless of nationality we usually treat people based on the they way that we see them behaving towards others. No doubt you would have noticed that if an Aussie likes you they are probably going to be joking around if they dont they will either limit the interaction or just tell you straight up what they think.. Staying in hostels you would have run into heaps of young backpackers from all over the world how those guys regard US people is something you would know a lot better than me. We just got home from a 20,000km trip around Australia with our caravan there is so much more to see here than just the popular tourist spots along the east coast. To experience a different side of Australia a lot of backpackers will spend a few months doing road trips in campervans because they get to experience just how big and diverse this continent is.....glad that you enjoyed your time here.

We have a lot of Aussie visitors to my home state of California. Just about every single one of them have told me over the years how friendly Americans were towards them while visiting the USA. I have talked with some Americans who didn't feel that Aussie's were that friendly towards them while visiting Australia, and they did detect a negative attitude towards America. Certainly, this wouldn't be everyone's experience though, as others told me most were friendly.

I have been to the states a number of times including California. The majority of the people I met over there were friendly especially after I told them that I was Australian. I did find knowledge of Australia was pretty limited and a lot of them were curious to know more about it. I ran into rude people now and then but thats the same in any country. As I said in my first post Aussies will usually treat people based on how they are behaving regardless of their nationality. If someone is being loud, in their face or obnoxious they will probably get a negative response.

I agree with what you are saying. Yes most Americans couldn’t name the capital of Australia (Canberra) but Australians certainly know the world famous Washington DC. Americans don’t have a positive or negative attitude towards Australia, so you guys do get the benefit of the doubt. I was born in Toronto, but have lived most of my life in Los Angeles. I am dual American/Canadian citizen, and let me tell you I get more love in Australia if I just say I’m Canadian. That way I don’t feel with some people I don’t have to discuss American politics, wars, gun policy, tipping culture, lack of National Heath Care, racism, homelessness or whatever. I really will only discuss those issues with fellow Americans. So I will usually just say I’m Canadian, and everyone will talk about how much they love beautiful Canada, and would like to visit again, or for the 1st time. @@user-bi8wp6wy3l

Thats true commenting on another countries politcs can be insensitive and not welcomed. It doesnt help that the news we see reported from the US tends to focus mostly on the negative. A lot of the world gets channels like CNN and Fox News and they devote their time into highlighting the type of issues that you mentioned. Maybe to keep the discussions more in house you should stop broadcasting them around the world. I have enough problems worrying about what the government here is doing without worrying about what going on over there.

I watch plenty of Aussie news on KZfaq, Channel 7 Network and 9 Network, Sky News, ABC News, and more Australian news channels. Your own media mentions something going on in America practically every single day. All of them have reporters in America. In the USA, Australia is seldom mentioned on our news, as most Americans could care less about Australia. Maddie said she didn't run across any Americans in Australia. Most Americans travel to Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Caribbean Beaches, UK, Italy, Spain, all of Europe, or South America. Simple put Australia is not on our radar. @@user-bi8wp6wy3l

So true, Aussie's can't really tell the difference between an American accent or Canadian accent. Just like we can't tell the difference between an Aussie or Kiwi accent. Unless it's a strong regional accent like a Southern USA, New Jersey, Boston, New York or Philly accent. Your accent is very neutral, probably could have gotten away with just saying your Canadian. I'm from California, and our accent is pretty neutral. Sometimes I will just say I'm Canadian, from Toronto or Vancouver, as I'm not in the mood to deal with the anti-American nonsense.

Hi kiddo - I’m an old Aussie. You did mention that Americans are not liked so much within the hostel culture. Perhaps that’s more to do with young folk with limited knowledge and borrowed bias. The truth is that most older Aussies do like the yanks and appreciate that we have our Democratic free society because of sacrifices made when our parents were alive. Kids these days just follow trends and go with the flow. Glad you enjoyed Australia! Come again yank!

We don't really tip??? We don't tip at all. Tipping is only a thing in America because you aren't payed properly.

Lol, seems like I'm always correcting ignoramuses from Australia. Most restaurant servers in my hometown of Los Angeles make anywhere from $100 to $200USD per day in tips, as Americans are very generous. The minimum wage in California is $17USD per hour, which is $26AUD. No one even works for the minimum wage, as the fast-food burger joints near me have signs up starting at $19USD per hour. The minimum wage in Australia is $23AUD per hour. If that is being paid "properly" can they buy a house, or even rent an apartment in Sydney on that?

@gracedagostino5231 Lol that wage is still higher than the wage in the US which is the point I'm making here, Sherlock. And sure, the housing issues in Australia are bad but things like that are still better than what's going on in the US. Tipping is still only a US thing because wages are so low. 17 dollars an hour is a pittance.

Lol, $17USD per hour is higher than your minimum wage of $23Aud per hour, look that up Sherlock. Wages are much higher in California than Australia, that is why we have more Aussie’s living in California, than Americans living in the entire country of Australia. Believe me they come here for our high paying jobs, and opportunities. If not they would just stay the hell in Australia. Nobody from America moves to Australia to get famous or rich, but people from Australia like Olivia Newton John for years have moved to America for great opportunities. @@dcmastermindfirst9418

We have a lot of Aussie visitors to my home state of California. Every single one of them over the years have commented how friendly Americans are towards them while visiting. I have heard some Americans who told me they didn't find Aussie's that friendly to Americans while visiting Australia. That some people did have a negative attitude toward Americans, or the USA in general, certainly not everyone though.

That’s good to hear! I found Aussies all to be SUPER friendly and nice to me even after they found out I was American - but they often still thought negatively of Americans in general

You are a very attractive person, with a pleasant personality; I don't feel all Americans would get as good as response as you got. We are a lot nicer to Aussie's visiting California, as we have no negativity towards Australia, than they are to us. I also don't like being around Aussie's when they are drinking, as they drink a lot more than us, can get ugly really quick, and no fun at all. Americans in general handle alcohol much better. Just reading your comment section, many of the Aussie's are braggarts, and self-righteous.@@MaddieRyles
