Villeroy & Boch is one of Germany’s most traditional family businesses. Last year, the company based in Saarland celebrated its 260th anniversary.
These days, the ceramics manufacturer sells its products in over 125 countries, and foreign sales make up 80 percent of sales. But business might not fare too well in 2009. We profile the company and meet up with Wendelin von Boch and Nicolas Luc Villeroy in the town of Mettlach.

I love this company since I discovered their products when I was 16, moving into my first own apartment and looking for outstanding design... In those days, guys of my age usually used to buy things like a nice stereo system, the Commodore 64 or a motorbike... I bought tableware of V&R... Today, 34 years later, I recently bought a collection of the amazing Manufacture Rock and Rock Glow series...

After a wait of more than 3 decades I purchased my first full set of Villeroy & Boch about 8 hours ago.

It used to be that upper middle class people could buy nice things. Now there is no middle class, just very rich and poor. Big business has shot themselves in the foot.

are V&B nice things? cuz I'm def.s [lower] lower middle class and I buy V&B - admittedly on sale. I do so enjoy stalking the deep sales both online and instore. You should see my posh friends sneakily flip the plates over and quietly freak out, hahahaha.
