Be forewarned - this is a seamless service coming into Funchal but there is something amiss when wanting to use it going out to the airport. It does not seem to run in the circular "loop" their website and signs imply. When I was trying to get to the airport for my return flight two weeks ago, I went to the exact stop where I had gotten off on my inbound trip (by Plaza Madeira). After a half hour wait, a bus stopped and dropped off a passenger but the driver brusquely told me I had to "wait for another bus". When none came after another half hour (and I was now pressed for time), I hailed a cab. My driver didn't speak great English, but he clearly hinted familiarity with the unreliability I had just experienced and he said the exact words, "It's a problem."
