This week, Mal is joined by her friend Sierra to discuss toxic relationships: the signs, the patterns, and what to do if you think you might be in one.
It was Sierra's first relationship with a woman that forced her to examine her past, and which brought up repressed memories of Childhood Sexual Assault (CSA). This revelation led to years of healing work and therapy, and Sierra found herself in various unhealthy romantic relationships throughout that challenging time. Sierra shares what she learnt during that time and reminds us that we all deserve a happy ending, no matter the circumstances we came from.

One of my Nieces was in an abusive relationship for 11 years , hid it well from myself and others. She joined a Roller Derby club that met twice a week where she met this awesome young woman and they hit it off on a friendship level. She ended up divorcing her abusive husband ( Emotional but not physical ) and moving in with this younger woman. She called me on the phone and asked me point blank if it was okay for her to bring her friend over to meet me. I said sure thing , if she was comfortable , well then so was I. When I met this young woman she was very apprehensive , which I completely understand why , but she had nothing to fear. My Niece asked me if she could have my blessing with her and her friend being lovers . Most definitely I said yes indeed. ( Emily and Devon ) have been Happily married now for 2 1/2 years now , I am really very proud of them and of two other Niece's who have married their girlfriends. Your podcasts are very important , I applaud you guys , absolutely love your Laugh it's very infectious indeed.

Oh my, this one resonated so deeply with me. Thank you for sharing your story. I am also a survivor and you just articulated the facts and awareness about how difficult it can be when forming relationships. CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) has been a practice of mine for 5 or so years now. It has been the holy grail to recognizing patterns and breaking cycles of toxicity. The importance of finding someone who can hold that safe space to talk about things and have balance with is all anyone asks for. I'm still out here trying to find her 😇🥰🧡

Great show. Heavy topic but sooo necessary to talk about and find some one to help you. I've always felt there's no possible way to have a healthy relationship with another person until you yourself are healthy in every aspect. And she made 50 sound old. 50 is the new 35. 😂. Lol look forward to the show. As always thanks for taking us along for the ride. ❤
