I actually have to correct myself, I'm sorry guys. There's a place in the grocery stores where children can pick fruit (all kinds actually) to eat when families go shopping but it's not just/it isn't the loose ones it's just all kinds of fruit that are on the edge of going bad and probably no one will buy them. I live in Iceland btw. :)

I started using Riverford precisely because of the packaging (and the fact that I wanted organic UK only produce), but it is more expensive. I think it’s worth it if you have the money, but if you don’t it really sucks that the supermarkets don’t have loose options.

@@Melissa.Garrett I agree with that because supermarket's would be able to lower the prices which would give local zero waste stores and health food stores some competition which means that the local zero waste stores and health food stores would lower their prices.

It's pity that we don't have bulk stores like they do in the United States unless you think zero waste stores that sell foods could be used and supermarkets should introduce more zero waste/plastic free options.

I work with a charity that focuses on redistributing food that would be thrown away by supermarkets. Asda often has bananas and potatoes but the biggest item is bread. They are really focused on making sure their excess food goes to people in need and work with several charities on this problem.

It varies quite a bit, depending on the supermarket and whether or not they’re “speciality” foods (organic, gluten-free, meat and dairy replacements, etc.) - but there are certainly a lot of cheap options in the mainstream stores. We are lucky that so many brackets of income are catered for, no question!

If I buy something and it was packaged in plastic, I usually cut them up into small pieces and put them in a plastic bottle. That way, you don't have to throw the plastic into the trash where it might eventually end up in the ocean or something like that. I can't help it if some things are still in plastic packaging but I like to think that I helped prevent contributing to the plastic waste in the oceans. It's also called eco bricks

Honestly, the hardest part of grocery shopping is the fact I live in a pretty poor area - So, we get bottom of the barrel produce (gross wet greens, rotten fruits, etc.), and the selection of canned/frozen foods is sparse. (On top of that, all the restaurants around here are very meat-based - lots of fast food with no vegan options, unless you get a plain salad). If you're getting into gardening, maybe you could make content on how to grow/maintain your own foods! I feel the way you present information in a simple, accessible way would do well with those sorts of videos. Anyway, great video! Always love to watch grocery hauls like this!

I'm in southern Louisiana in the states and we have tons of wild blackberries (mostly in the rural areas near Lafayette). My uncle uses them to make jam and wine and they're amazing.

Would love you to try an Iceland shop and see how you get on with it! - lots of frozen veg and fruit (which is cheaper than fresh and can be just as nutritious) and they also do some vegetarian things as well.

Hi maddie and Alex great shopping haul. Don’t shop at Asda but will be as have a new cheese out Applewood smoked, melts like a dream I’m told. Noticed the soya milk was organic £1 cheap, I will buy some as I make my own soya yogurt. The new cheese patties look good. Thanks for a great vlog. Hope the new house is going OK. 😘

I take cabbage and cut it in half inch thick half moons. Then add your oil of choice (avocado is my fave), garlic, onion, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Bake at 350° F until it gets golden and a little crispy. 😋

Thank you for the video, it’s really helpful! My question, though, is how do you shop for one person only? I find it frustrating that supermarkets sell plastic packs full of veggies and not lose ones, because (environment aside for a sec) the amount is too much for me only and I can’t just pick the amount I manage to eat.

Blackberries and blackberry foraging are definitely a thing in the US. At least on the west coast. They are an invasive plant here and are absolutely everywhere.
