Hey Mark, I'm still enjoying your lesson. Another assignment. In my opinion, I think painting the building and changing the carpet would be a better choice, although the elevator is a outdated but still working effectively. Firstly, the present house painting has been washed away by the rain and the part of the building decorated with metal has been corroded. Algae are now growing on the walls, in fact, the appearance of the building look so archic. Secondly, the carpet needs to be changed because it looks so filthy and smells terrible. Sometime, some children would urinate on it with out scrubbing and this could results to slip and fall accident. Lastly, the state of the house painting and carpet of this apartment is so embarrassing that I no longer invite my friends to my house. For instance, one of my friends visited me, when she saw the situation of the place, she even advised me to look for another house and live, I was ashamed of my self. Considering these reasons, I believe painting and provision of new carpet would be a better choice and every tenant would be elated if this would be considered. How ever, I will also support what ever decision made by the landlord.

I personally would like to get new paint and carpets for several reasons. Even though the elevator is getting a little old, it's still useable. We really need to get fix inside first for our comfort living. First, the color is the wall outside obsessively faded and getting look old building. I found some parts are scrunched by wild animals as well. My roommates also says the outlook of this building is miserable. The new color whichever you pick will be better looking building for sure. Second, I like the idea of new carpet. Winter in here is quiet cold. Since we don't have floor heating, I think the carpet is really important for us. If we could get the new ones, it will keep us warm and comfortable for whole winter. Considering those reasons, I believe that getting new paint and carpets are better choice. This is my personal opinion, but I will support whatever decision is made. Thank you for giving me a chance to provide input on this issue.

Your feedback on this please. I appreciate the initiative taken by the management for renovating the building. I prefer to choose the new paint and carpets as part of renovation work. Even though the building does need a new elevator, the new paint and carpets would offer more practical benefits to the tenants. First of all, we are facing a lot of problems due to the bed bugs with old carpets. Changing the carpet would give a great sign of relief from the bugs for all the tenants. It has been more than 5 years since the building was painted and I feel so ashamed to invite friends to my apartment as it looks very old. That way, adding new paint gives a wonderful outlook to my apartment and the entire building too. Secondly, I noticed that the elevator is running in a good condition and has been well maintained by the service provided on regular basis by the management. So, a new elevator is not needed now. Personally，I think a new elevator would be a better choice. Even though the building does need a new paint job, the elevator would offer more practical benefits to the tenants. The first problem with the current elevator is that it is extremely slow. Sometimes it takes more than five minutes to arrive after pushing the button. A lot of people in the building have started using the stairs because they’re so fed up with the elevators. The second problem is safety. Sometimes the elevator does strange things. For example, yesterday it suddenly stopped moving, then it dropped a few feet. It was a very frightening experience. Considering these reasons, I believe an elevator would be a better choice. I highly appreciate that as an owner resident of this building I was given a chance to express my opinion regarding the projected maintenance in building. It will be great to change paint and carpets in our building as those works are due since a long time. However, I recommend to replace elevator instead at this time. First of all, we are having issues with the elevators since a long time as those are old and are in operation since those are installed during building construction. Every odd day these elevator goes out of service and all residents have to use stairs. In addition to that one third residents of out building are elderly people so it is not easy for seniors to use stairs all the time. Furthermore, elevators are really slow in operation. When I come back from work every day, I notice long ques up in the main lobby, people waiting for elevators sometimes 30 minutes if one elevator is down. Same thing happens during morning every time when all residents have to go to work. It is such an inconvenience for all the residents. All in all, in my opinion replacing elevators at this point of time would be a great idea. It will help residents to get to their work on time and also reduce waiting time in lobby. Senior residents would be able to go out for walk and will make this place more comfortable for them. Keeping these in mind I hope painting and carpeting works can be postponed this next year.

In my opinion, I would agree that T2 is harder. Even though the time and score setting of T1 and T2 is the same, T2 has several reasons more difficult than T1 in the test. The first reason with T2 is lack of practice. Nowadays, we don't have lots of opportunities to provide the reason for the survey to explain why we made the decision by writing. Most people skip the "give a reason" when they take the survey by email, online, in person, or on phone. The Second reason with T2 is that I don't have enough time. The ideas and opinions need time to organized. For example, when I start writing T2, I need to take 2 mins to make a decision first, and then costs 5 mins to bring up 2 reasons for my choice. Compare to T1, the same number of words can only use less time to finish. It makes me stressed due to the time problem. Considering these reasons, I believe T2is harder than t1. Again, this my personal opinion, and I understand if people have different thoughts. Thank you for giving me a chance to provide input on this issue,

HI Mark here is my response: It is my opinion that option B would be a better fit. Even though the paint job and the new carpet have its advantages, option B would be a more practical benefit to the tenants. The first benefit is that there are senior citizens in the building, and it is quite a strain on them to constantly walk up and down the stairs since the elevator can hold only three people. Furthermore, the elevator is outdated and at times it does not work. Secondly, with an upgraded elevator, this would be a lucrative opportunity, which can bring in new tenants. We are one out of two buildings on this block with an elevator. Therefore, having the latest model would better serve the current tenants and tenants to come. The upgraded elevator would have the latest features such as a phone for emergencies and in addition hold more people. Considering these reasons, I believe option B would be a great addition as everyone would benefit. Again, this is my opinion, but I will support any decision that is made. I appreciate the opportunity to provide input.

Some people made graffiti on the front wall and backyard wall of the building which is destroying the image of the building. Another reason is the rain and snow which damaged the beauty of the old paint. On the other hand, the carpet of the building is having many stains on it which looks very weird sometimes. Science says that by the passage of time many germs live and grow in the carpet that causes lung problems so we must change it after some time. Dear Building Owner, Firstly, let me thank you for involving me in this crucial decision, I hope my advice will be beneficial for you and all the residents of the building in the long run. Since we have to decide either we can go for the option (A of new paint and carpet) or (option B of new elevator). According to my personal experience we should opt for option B,even though option A is necessary but we have to keep in mind which one is of immediate and in urgent need.The reason for choosing option B is because in our building many tenants are old couples and families with school going children. Since the elevator are old enough and many times it stops working due to faulty machinery. Most affected are upper floor residents, as summer is approaching, our kids get exhaust by climbing staircase to reach their respective flats, we can imagine what they will go through in summer days. Same as the case with old age couples. Furthermore, many of your upper floor flats are still vacant because new tenants do not book the flat due to this ongoing problem I hope you will consider my advice for installation of elevator on priority basis and we all come on the same page as most of other tenants like me in the building are in the favor of elevator. As the apartment building is getting old we residents wanted to make few changes to the building. I am glad you have given us the privilege to decide over it. Personally, I feel repainting the building is better option as it is more economical comparatively to replacing the elevators. Indubitably, elevators are required to be replaced but I believe old elevators could be repaired rather than replacing them with the new ones as they are in authentically better conditions. Apparently, it is more important to repaint the building entirely because it has been 10 years since no touch-up has been given to the walls and this old paint looks more primitive and makes the building look dull and monotonous. Furthermore, carpets would change the look of the entire building as the building is made with historical design and carpets would make it look like a castle. However, ambience of the building would entirely change and we can also attract new tenants for the houses which are not occupied at the moment as it is near to the train station and in downtown and previously people mostly were reluctant in leasing because it was not properly maintained. Perhaps, I think this option is less time consuming and more cost effective comparatively to replacing the elevators. Again, this is my personal choice, but i will support whatever decision is made.

From my point of view, I think new paint and carpet change is more needed than the new elevator. Although, the apartment also need a new elevator, the new paint and carpet change will give more healthy benefits. First, some parts of the wall has its paints and bricks chipped off. Most times, there are dust from the chipped off particles that is unhealthy to inhale especially for the occupants that has respiratory problems. For example, my family and I always have to wear a nose mask due to the dusty atmospheric condition within the apartment. Also, the second advantage of getting a new paint and carpet is the aesthetic value that will be added to the apartment. The wall looks dirty and the carpets are filthy-looking with dirt patches. Changing the paint will allow patching the cracks while beautifying the building as a whole. Also, if the carpet is changed, it will eliminate or drastically reduce the amount of dust released into the atmosphere during movements while also creating a healthy environment. For example, I had to take my daughter to the hospital and she was diagnosed with respiratory track infection. I am suspecting this is due to the amount of dirty air inhaled withing the apartment because she spend most of her time within the apartment. From the above reasons, I will opt for a new paint and carpet as my most preferred choice. There are alternative to the elevator as the current one is still running and there is a staircase that can also be used. However, there is no alternative to the healthy condition of the apartment. This is my opinion as I will support whatever decision that is finally made. Thank you for making my opinion count by giving me a chance to contribute in this matter.

In my opinion, I think I will choose new paint and carpets. Elevator would be a good choice for our apartment, but the paint and carpets are more useful for me. The first reason for the new paint and carpets are really old. Everyone came to the apartment, the very first thing they will see are paint and carpets. They may feel not comfortable. Even though the furniture provided by the apartment is brand new for every new resident, the old nasty carpet makes people losing interests in our apartment. The second reason is a little bit personal. I have been lived in the first floor for more than fives. It’s rarely for me to use the elevator. I understand that the elevator is slow and may impact residents a lot in morning rush hour. But I was lived in another apartment and a higher floor, and we had pretty good and new elevator. It still made me late in the busy morning. I don’t think a new elevator will change a lot. More elevator installed could help but for now it won't make a big difference. Considering these reasons, I believe new paint and carpets would be a better choice. I hope you will collect enough surveys to make a good decisions. Thanks

Hi Mark, thank you for your videos. I need to get a 9 in Writing (I have scored 8 on my first attempt). For Task 2 Practice Test one is supposed to argue in favour of either a shopping complex or recreational park. This is my response, what do you think would be my score?: Personally, I believe the development of a shopping complex has more rationale behind compared to the recreational park. Even though our town needs another sports complex and a large green area, construction of the mall would offer more socio-economic benefits to the residents of Tall Falls. Most importantly the existing shopping facilities at River Crossing are outdated, undersized, and fail to satisfy the increasing demand from growing population. Currently it takes over 30 minutes to find a parking spot. This resulted in many residents opting for a drive to the nearby town of Glen Meadows, where ample parking is available and the selection of stores is superior. Additionally, the new complex will create a substantial amount of temporary jobs during the construction phase. Once completed a significant number full-time positions will be added to our economy, including the seasonal work for students of Tall Falls College. At this point a high percentage of the town's young population is unable to find work and is forced to either remain unemployed or commute to other municipalities, putting their studies and financial well-being at risk. Considering these reasons, I believe the development of the shopping complex would be the preferred choice for our community. Thank you in advance!

In my opinion new paint and carpets are needed more this summer than the new elevator. Our elevators are old fashioned style but I personally did not have any bad experience with them during my 10 years of living here. On the other hand, I think, our building really need a fresh paint. The outside walls are full of graffiti and probably haven't been painted since the building existed. The situation inside the building is not much better. The nicknames and vulgar messages are written everywhere around and it is not pleasant to see them every day, especially for the kids. Also, I really think that is finally time to change our carpets. The first problem is that they are damaged and smell terrible. I know that they have been washed and vacuumed regularly but it seems that doesn't help anymore. The second problem with carpets is safety. Few days ago, I almost fell down because my hill got stuck in one of the many holes in the carpet on the second floor. For the reasons I have written above I really hope that new paint and carpets are coming this summer. And hopefully new elevators as well in the years to come. However, this is only my personal opinion and I will support any decision is made. Thank you for including me and other tenants in this decision-making.

I believe installing a new lift in the building would be much better. Although the apartments do need new paint, the need of the hour is definitely a new lift. firstly, the current lift isn't functioning properly. as far as I rember the lift has been there for the past 10 years and with each passing day, it's becoming dysfunctional. It causes a lot of problems to tenants, for instance, last week it stopped in the middle if the 6th and 7th floor with two kids and an old age man in it and they were stuck there for 20 minutes. the phone inside the lift and the alarm both were not working. fortunately, they were safe but it could have been some serious situation. secondly, the model is also not very updated. the lift is not made to carry a load more than 100kgs so it becomes a bit difficult when everyone comes back after work, there is a lot of waiting. due to these reasons, a lot of people have started avoiding using the lift. it is causing a lot of inconvenience. therefore i personally feel that a lift is more necessary at this point of time. however, I am sure the authorities will take the right decision . thank you

Please let me know what you think of this response: (by the way, thank you for your Celpip videos!) Personally, I would choose Option B. I can think of 2 reasons for this preference: convenience and safety. Recently, there were 2 incidents in a span of 6 days due to malfunction of the elevators which caused extreme trouble among the residents. One of the owners was having renovation in his unit when both of the cars stopped working. As a result, the flooring company had to call off the labor which caused the delays, and worse, the occupant had to book a hotel because his apartment was a total wreck. Since we live in an adult complex, some of the homeowners have a muscular degenerative disease that hinders them from using the stairs in case the lifts are unavailable for use. In addition, even though new paint and installation of new carpets will beautify the building, I believe that security always comes first. Because the structure was built 40 years ago, the elevators need some updating like having an alarm button and an intercom to use in case of emergency. With these new technologies, people will have peace of mind in times of uncertainty. Moreover, as we know, anything old should be replaced especially electronics to provide more efficiency and to prevent from having short-circuits that would potentially cause a fire. Given all the rationales, having a new hoist is a practical and more beneficial choice for our establishment.

Task 2 for me is easier because its based on my opnion. Unlike the task 1, I should be creative in generating the situation so that I could write a good and cohesive writing

I tried the free CELPIP exam on the official CELPIP site. Here's what I did for task 2: I think most people would go for a Recreational Park as they see it fitting for a small town with a huge grassy area in the center. However, in my opinion, our town could be more than itself in the future if we build a Shopping Complex instead. One clear advantage of having a Shopping mall, which includes restaurants, superstores, and cinema, is economic growth. Many investors will come to our small town to start companies that will eventually create jobs for the local community. Simply put, a Shopping mall will benefit the entire town by creating profit. In terms of leisure activities, watching movies in a Cinema is a mile better choice than playing a sport or two in a complex should we opt to build a Recreational Park. I think stimulating our mind through films is the real exercise we need today given the competitive trend in our town recently. Finally, I think our town is in need of Superstores. Residents often drive miles and miles away just to shop for their basic necessities. Or worse, they rely on Online shopping which more often than not, proved to be unsatisfying. For these reasons, I am more than convinced that our small town with 10,000 people, needs a Shopping Center more than a Recreational Park. 216 words

In my opinion building a shopping complex would be a better choice for out city. Recreational park is also good idea; however, we already have so many parks in our city. First of all, as we know, all major shopping complex are so far from the city and sometime we have to go to other cities for groceries or all other daily use items. To just watch a movie, I have to drive 40 kms and it is so time consuming and spending that much time on road with family during night is not safe. Not even shopping complex will provide so many facilities to city residents like, a theater, restaurants and so many retail shops. In addition to that this will generate a healthy job market for city residents along with a great business opportunity for young entrepreneur. Personally, I believe a shopping complex would be a better choice for the city now as it is a much-needed amenity. It will not only provide residents with convenience of shopping nearby but also great career opportunities too. So, shopping complex will offer more practical benefits to residents.

Firstly, I live at the 24 floors, and I cannot believe that the elevator is moving slow. It will be a big issue for all the residents to go to the work on time. In addition, the elevator makes a lot of noise during the movement. That terrified the children and it has a negative impact on our listening. Next, the elevator we are using is quite dangerous. Few days ago, I was talking the elevator at the midnight, and it stopped for the reason unknown. I freaked out by the time, because everyone was sleeping and no one could hear me. According to the reasons I have mentioned above, I believe that having a new elevator is a priority option for us. Whatever the final decision, I will respect it.

I managed to scored in my first try: L 10 R 12 S 10 W 8 I was short by 1 point to get the scored that I needed :(. For me the biggest issue was to find useful material to practice. Im giving it another try in a few days so hopefully I can get that extra point I need in writting.

I tried to copy your template. please let me know how is it. You are employed by a large restaurant chain. Your line manager has written to you to ask your opinion on plans for the yearly staff trip in the coming winter. There are two options to choose from and your manager would like feedback on which you think is best. Choose the option that you prefer. Why do you prefer your choice? Explain the reasons for your choice. Write about 150-200 words. Option A: Take all the employees to a local restaurant with a small charge to each employee. Option B: Have a ‘pot luck’ dinner at the office, where everyone brings a dish that they have bought or prepared. Personally, I think gathering all the employees at the office for the 'pot luck' dinner would be a great idea for the annual staff trip. Even though, taking all the workers out to a restaurant for a minor charge, Get together dinner at the workplace would be more fun. Firstly, most of the employees are from different nations around the world so they can bring their traditional dishes to the work. Everybody will have the opportunity to taste several types of food. Moreover, if they like their colleague's food then they can also talk about the different types of recipes. Secondly, Inviting all the workers to the dinner will also help to build a strong bond with employees. As we were really busy this year and almost everybody gave their best performance, so this event would be the best chance for them to know and talk to each other after a hectic schedule at work. Considering these reasons, I believe that a potluck dinner would be a better choice. Everyone at the job would be overjoyed. Again, this is my personal opinion, but I will support whatever decision is made.

Can we write in conclusion this way, "Although I believe that paint and carpets would also be required in addition, but given the situation of terrible working condition of the elevator, fixing it should be on the topmost priority."?

Can we use same strategies like ielts? Like,write in passive form, use complex sentences, counter statements by using even though, though etc? Because I use these techniques in ielts and I Scored 7.5 in it..should I follow same writing skills?

Hi Mark, could you take a look at my writing based on your example? Could you let me know what score I can get for my try? From my perspective, I would choose changing the painting and carpet. Elevator is also a good option, but it’s still in good condition during my 1 year stay, but painting and carpet’s problem seems more urgent right now. The first reason is that the current painting makes the building looks old and uncomfortable. I am not sure if you notice this or not, there are obvious cracks on the wall in the whole building. The situation on the second floor where I live is the most serious. You can even find the original bricks there. My friends asked me if it is safe to live here when they visited me for the first time. It’s so embarrassing! The second reason is that the carpet looks very dirty and even smelly. Especially in the rainy days, you can feel some disgusting odor in the corridor. I think there is no regular or good carpet maintenance service in the building. I saw someone spilled his milk on the carpet in one morning, and it remained there with no cleanse. I highly recommend we can just remove the carpet in the public area or replace it with new carpets. Considering these reasons, I believe that new painting and carpets would be a better choice. Everyone in this building will be overjoyed if we can make these changes as soon as possible. But this is just my personal opinion. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to provide my thoughts on the issues.
