As I arrived at work one Monday morning, I received news that my uncle had been murdered earlier that morning. I took the next available bus home. Popped on my headphones, clicked play on my last playlist, and this song played. Got me in tears on the ride. To this day it reminds me of my uncle. Rest easy ❤️

Man, "Montara" is one of my favorite jazz songs ever (I'm a big Bobby Hutcherson fan). I like how Madlib freaked the loop with the chopped up Lou Rawls break. Classic material!!!

This song demonstrates the simple brilliance of hip-hop as a way to make music. Here you take a pretty straightforward wind piece, specifically the main melody from Montara, and a drum break from another record. The act of putting them together at that very moment (let's say 00:18), is where it transforms. No longer just two pieces living separately, they come together and form a whole greater than a simple sum of its parts. A good loop + a good break, that's really what it comes down to.

I think the drum break is original, and they had someone replay the melody of montara on a flute and Madlib samples the low end from montara while playing his own bass and marimba and vibraphone in the background

1/5/2021 Rest in Peace to my conversion van and my home, Surge. 5 days into the new year and my home of two and a half years burst into flames and was completely charred in a mechanical fire that started randomly. Luckily, I am safe. However, I lost everything I own including clothes, mattress and bedding, bathroom supplies, dishes and kitchen items, food, all my important documents (including passport/birth certificate, etc.), personal items such as my laptop and cellphone. Everything. I had spent the months of July-October of 2020, getting my conversion van repainted and ventilated, extensive mechanical work done, and reconstructed on the inside. All in hopes of taking off on another off the grid journey. I'm a firm believer that "everything happens for a reason", which supports the idea that disasters such as this can often be blessings in disguise. However, I believe blessings also come when you are able to admit you could use some help.

@dharris43186 ай бұрын
@@veronicajata3121 wow. thank you for checking in tbh. It was a long journey. i"m just starting to feel inspired in life and like I have purpose again. I had a lot of grief to process, but still had to move on and live life. I feel like I started to truly feel the grief was surfaced, processed and let go about 6 to 9 months ago. It was hard, bc no one really understood just how traumatic it was. So, it felt like I was being judged for not "moving forward" fast enough, and for my shifts in what was important to me. I don't really value material items/lifestyles like I used to, and I can tell it makes people uncomfortable that I'd rather focus on my own personal peace, and just enjoying the little things in life (like hikes, stretching, sitting in silence, privacy, and simply living without the pressure of always being productive and chasing achievements). Thank you again, I really appreciate it. 💛

I always like to hear an update from people on youtube even if I don't know their names lol. I'm glad things are looking up for you. Please stay close to God, that helps a lot! If you need to cry, please do. I have this problem sometimes, I have to laugh to keep myself from crying. But we must remember that we have all our emotions for a reason so please don't feel as if you must suppress them. Anyways, I hope 2024 is a better year for you! Good things take time to flourish.
