I love the choral style keyboard effect on this song.

Superbly produced by Alan and Clive and hasn't aged at all. Carl's maturity as a singer and songwriter meant that he was the band's George Harrison, which may have caused some interesting discussions... The only downside to 'Michael Caine' is that it kind of gets viewed as a novelty record, whereas it is nothing of the sort.

they rely too much ok the really old stuff live, 82 was fantastic but the theywere still witing great songs in the late 80s, I agree it's a huge shame this period doesn't get more attention

This song marked the beginning of the bands decline chart position wise. A real shame as they were heading in a really interesting direction around this time.

That's because Mike Barson left the band after this song, that's why in the music video he stands up and walks away, but the piano keys keep playing. A shame honestly, but he wanted to spend more time with his wife

These days the main reason would be that it's sung by Carl Smyth and he left the band a few years back.

He often stated in interviews that it got annoying really quickly to hear people repeating "My name is Michael Caine". I love this song though. :)
