Lyrics:
I have a tale to tell
Sometimes, it gets so hard to hide it well
I was not ready for the fall
Too blind to see the writing on the wall
A man can tell a thousand lies
I've learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell the secret I have learned
'Til then, it will burn inside of me
I know where beauty lives
I've seen it once, I know the warmth she gives
The light that you could never see
It shines inside, you can't take that from me
A man can tell a thousand lies
I've learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell the secret I have learned
'Til then, it will burn inside of me
The truth is never far behind
You kept it hidden well
If I live to tell the secret I knew
Then will I ever have the chance again?
If I ran away, I'd never have the strength to go very far
How would they hear the beating of my heart?
Will it grow cold, the secret that I hide? Will I grow old?
How will they hear? When will they learn? How will they know?
A man can tell a thousand lies
I've learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell the secret I have learned
'Til then, it will burn inside of me
The truth is never far behind
You kept it hidden well
If I live to tell the secret I knew
Then will I ever have the chance again?
A man can tell a thousand lies
I've learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell the secret I have learned
'Til then, it will burn inside of me

I think this is one of Madonna’s best songs and one of her most beautiful looks. Just natural beauty. ❤
@kda61

I also thought this look with the shoulder length honey blonde hair brought out her natural beauty more than the short, white blonde hair. She's wearing the same look in the Material girl video, plus dressed in formal wear, and she looks stunning. Wish they'd picked a better dress for her to wear for this video, but the video was reflecting the theme of the movie, so I get it.

Extra bittersweet for me...I grew up in the area where this movie was filmed. The opening scene is the way the "old" Franklin Tennessee and surrounding area looked. My Grandmother lived just a few blocks from the square. As a child we would walk uptown to shop. It took something like him almost dying to make us appreciate the tiniest things. He now savors every spoonful when he's having a meal. I seem to really appreciate the outdoors more than ever. I just want to be up in the woods. Listening to everything. The wind, the birds, the sounds a campfire makes. Life is good. We live simply. But we are truly happy. We've never been more haply than we are now. Before he got sick(it was covid- attacked his lungs), we were going thru the motions. Not anymore.

"Live to Tell' is simply beautiful. The gentle melody and emotive vocals envelop me in a unique experience. The lyrics, filled with confessions and reflections, touch my heart. It's a masterpiece that transcends time, delving into universal themes like love and loss that resonate with us all. 'Live to Tell' is not just a song; it's a gift from Madonna that prompts me to reflect on my own stories. A gem in the history of pop music that endures with love throughout time.

Very well described nothing else to add. This IS obviously much more than a song or a soundtrack. Its much deeper.Ive been listening to this song for a year after havent listened to It since I was a kid.Now Ima musician.I played It in my upright piano and the feeling in the room IS sureal.even more cause the sound actually vibrantes not like a digital piano. You can check my video playing in my chanell obviously the cell phone cant catch the sound as It is but truly amazing.Another song that sounds upsolutely incredible in the upright IS Purple rain.I dont know what It is about the chords in these 2 songs that hit so deep

I like this because this is telling a story, and it comes from the depth and shows angst of a woman who has gone through a hard heart-break. Of course, men can relate to that happening to them, as well. She also says she now understand where beauty lives. She's beginning to mature and can see different possibilities that the younger version couldn't see, and that she is rising above it all. I love this song, too. I could agree that it's Madonna's best song.

You mean 1+1+1=1?! You mean the belief that said "we humans born sinners which means the babies born sinners?!" You mean "God has sent his son which his son is him in the same time and got crucified, tortured to death for our sins! we the very, very tiny super weak creatures in this existence!!!", if this is what you mean then it's highly unbelievable that you still not realizing that this beliefs has a huge role in all that tihS you have in your societies!!. Ask Madonna, I heard that her parents are conservatives Christians!.

@straight-adhi7861 : scientists don't know Human beings better than God does. God is our Creator and just judge .... not scientists. You ask Madonna .... I'll keep seeking and asking God the questions I need to ask Him. I'm not perfect. No one is perfect in this life. God loves us all despite our sins except godless reprobates.

I danced this marvelous song with my first love, in 1987 ... It was magic, slowly moving, holding her in my arms ... never thought that moment she was starting to letting me go in her heart. I´m 55 now but every time I hear this song, my hearts flies to her, thankful for the gift of being loved, at least for a while.

I roller skated to this song with my first love and I'm 47, which means we were only 11 years old. And we were together from the first day of 6th grade until the last day! Then we both suddenly realized we hated each other...

I was a 19 year old kid in the Arabian Desert in 1990, a lance corporal USMC. I remember this particular song as an escape from everything, as I’d plug it in and turn my Walkman to 10. Wow, the years unfurled quicker than a young man could ever imagine….if I ran away I’d never have the strength to go very far….bittersweet, life, that is…
