You have to give it to Liz Rosenberg. The "Vanity Fair diaries" were so important, because she had the space and opportunity to talk extensively about herself , pregnancy and personal life during the filming. Through that the press was already saturated with personal stuff and focused on the acting, the movie and her achievement as an actress when the movie came out. The press had to focus on the movie and nothing distracted from the movie. Liz is truely an Hollywood icon! She did a fantastic job and I believe Madonnas career will never be the same after her retirement.

Madonna deserved the Academy Award that year for Best Actress. At the very least she deserved to have been nominated. 👏🏆

I agree. She really hmgave her 200% for that role.

Hello, you moved me seeing the video of Madonna's award ceremony. There is also the Spanish version of Dont Cry per me argentina. Evita has won 5 Oscars in the minor categories. Madonna won the Golden Globe for this role. This is Madonna's first press conference and one of my favorite though long Madonna press conference after Evita screening at Directors Guild in Los Angeles, Dec 10, 1996

Madonna is so right. I'm not famous but if I had just become a father, I wouldn't want everyone shouting my business about either, only my nearest and dearest and to be very blunt, other people's personal life doesn't interest me in the slightest. Good for Madonna.

PERFECT CASTING. She most definitely should have won the Oscar for her role in this.

I still can"t believe she did not get an Oscar nom, while -for example- mediocre actresses like Catherine Zeta-Jones actually won the award for a musical. (And even Renée Zellweger was nominated). My theory is that (the producer) didnt had that power in the movie industry to push the movie like Weinstein did with Chicago.

the break up with guy did something to her. It's almost as if she's lost her confidence. It's so sad to see her Instagram nowadays. And it has nothing to do with age. It wouldn't look good on anybody the things she's been posting. She seems so out of touch, desperate... she's been associating herself with trash when she's so much better than that. She's surrounded by trash.

How you described Madonna now was how people used to describe Madonna when she first became famous back in the early 80's. When Madonna first became famous, I remember the critics called her trash, whore, desperate for attention, no talent, and many other unflattering things. People have been calling her all kinds of names for 40 years. The things people say about her now was the same things people called call back then. People always tell her how to behave, how to dress, and how to act throughout her whole career. It is not about her, but a reflect about other people need to control her and make her into someone they think she should be.

@@FuckVirginMary those ''people'' you're referring to never liked her to begin with, what they say/said doesn't even matter. I'm calling out what I'm seeing as someone who misses substance to her music. I see a Madonna that seems lost and surrounded by trash. Trash rappers, trash influencers...people with no real substance.

@@griff404 Wow...what a comment! It seems like you love Madonna and are protective of her. Just like me! There is a few things that I would like to tell you: 1. You speak about her being "surrounded by trash"! This is a really harsh judgement. Firstly I remember when people said Madonna is trash. She wasn't even invited to do "We are The World"! 2. Have you ever considered that her business isn't friendly to older women and she is the only one still doing what she did when she was 23 in a day and age where most artists are younger than her (hence immature or not accomplished)? 3. Also her contemporaries have died of AIDS, retired (Rosenberg, Mondino and Baron) and many died (Whitney, George; Michael, Prince). So it is natural that she as a survivor and pioneer is surrounded by "trash"! ? Pause for a moment and just imagine how SHE feels! Alone? Misunderstood? Trashed all day for her looks and age! For the fact that she decided to continue doing what she loves. People (Kanye) don't meet her anymore in studio sessions and send her material. She is forced to work with younger people that have more (social media) fame and are way less talent!ed Judgmental people of her age in showbuisness that always hated her and would never work with her! (we don't wanna name names) Genz (stupid, entitled and uneducated) as an audience! Kim K on the cover of Vogue (god knows why)! Changes in show business and the processes like video budgets shrinking, sales not counting, streaming and social media engagement instead of great work etc. Can she change all of that? All of this affects her creatively, mentally and emotionally!

I don’t think she deserved an Oscar for that role which is all sung and a bit stiff because ultimately Madonna’s real persona has that toughness and sometimes stiffness which comes from having to be so tough to be who she is, but that was a cool project. Her best acting parts are Desperately Seeking Susan, A League Of Their Own and Swept Away. The fact that Evita is all sung is cool in ways but it also creates a certain distance and makes it hard to see it as a proper acting achievement.
