Madonna was just massive in the mid to late 1980's, you really had to live through that era to fully appreciate and understand what a huge impact she had on music and fashion at that time. Together with Michael Jackson, Prince, Bruce Springsteen, Whitney Houston, Phil Collins, and George Michael, it was an incredible decade of music Superstars, the likes of which we'll never see again. It was a truly amazing time to be alive! 😊

It was a top 10 hit in The Netherlands, were I grew up. In 1985 she had 7 or 8 top 10 hits, every young girl was singing en dancing on her songs in her room and wanted her hair. All women over 30 hated her because all men thought she was hot. This was the age where good looks were about choice, creativity and expression, not yet about having a certain bodytype or nosesurgery....

JOYOUS PERFORMANCE. She was exploding into the zeitgeist and the whole world was watching. Even those who hated her couldn't ignore her. I love this tour perhaps most of all of hers, because she didn't yet think she needed 30 dancers and complicated stage sets to blow us out of our seats. Her power/energy/joy/sensuality was enough, along with a live band and TWO backup dancers/vocalists. That's all she ever needed. Thanks for the joy, Madonna!

Madonna blew up faster than anyone I’ve ever seen. She became a household name overnight. Sold out stadiums faster than the Beatles or Justin Bieber. Here’s the thing, there was no social media, text messages, cell phones, music to download. One badass girl back in the day. Every boy wanted her. Every girl either wanted to look like her or be with her. PS. so many have disagreed w me. In the 80’s, I had the privilege of working in this industry. I’ll say and I know so many others that agree w me, NO ONE worked harder or wanted it more than Madonna. She was amazing to work around and gave off such a presence, you damn well knew when she entered the room or the stadium for that matter. I just watched some of her older or first music videos, very proud and for the nay sayers, you might wanna Google her accomplishments and compare her to anyone anytime anyplace. ☮️.

Madonna was very involved in the artistic direction of her concerts from the very beginning, which was especially unusual for female pop artists at that time. Nile Rodgers is a legend, no doubt about that, but give credit where it’s due. Her live shows had her creative hand all over them.

I will always remember the Lucky Star video being the first time I ever saw a singer with backup dancers. It became the standard for pop girls and now there's more dancers on a stage than the actual artists. And at least Madonna could keep up with the dancers because she had dance experience herself.

You are absolutely correct. The MIDI revolution combined with affordable electronics (Roland and Casio synths) and video music was an explosion of creativity. Unfortunately it could not be sustained because by the end of the decade producers had reduced things into formulaic marketing.

I do agree with you! Even here in Brazil, we were leaving a dictatorship behind, finally having democracry and it was all reflected in culture, mainly music, with lots of Brazilian new wave/pop/rock bands coming out. Of course, we had a lot of American music as well, and Madonna had enormous success here.

I just hope somehow in our digital world there can be another time of wide open creativity that is not muzzled by either record companies (less likely) or by tech censorship (more likely) because most artists are not willing to release copyrighted material - and as soon as it is copyrighted, it vanishes via the censors algorithms

I was born in 92, but I listen to 80s music, watch 80s movies, buy vinils and wear 80s clothes and shoes (some originally from the 80s). I am SURE I lived this decade in another life, cause I feel energies of true happiness and excitement when I listen to these music. It's incredible! The 80s culture makes me VERY HAPPY! I d give anything to go back and live the best decade ever! 💜✨

it’s the synth sound that the late 70s and 80s had. Even today digital synths try to replicate that analog sound , all the keyboards had such a unique sound

I agree. I was 9 when Madonna first appeared on the music scene....& I knew she'd be here to stay. My mom scoffed & said "Madonna is just a fad, she'll be gone in a year or two." The thing is watching this now ….I still can feel the shock factor and why this was such a big deal …. I mean have you watched the whole 1984 VMAS? This performance stands out like sore thumb …. Everything from the huge wedding cake, to the gown fashion, to the twirling and humping the stage … this was BALLSY lol Madonna was such a visual star …. No one will ever truly understand the impact the 80s artists made, except those who were there and were drowned in the beauty and dynamics of the massive flow of the different styles of music, fashion and fun all in a huge explosive dynamic whirlwind. So glad I was able to experience all of this, where would the world be without it? If I could go back in time and relive anything, it would be the 80s. Best time of my life ❤️🇺🇸

The bracelets, the beast mode bras on the outside the hair the clothes...they were EVERYWHERE Even here in NYC. There were fckng millions & they paid 50 bucks for her LEGENDARY SEX book in the 90s that sold out instantly. She gotta chill out now...but bow down back then Btches. Seriously. They were like popcorn. Ants at a picnic . U couldn't walk 3 blocks without tripping over a Madonna fan. Or a dozen. Or a gazillion.
