I agree. But it's not consistent. Women in popular music went stagnant in the early 00's. Then Lady Gaga changed everything. I know that saying this on a Madonna music video is going to get me hate-comments, but I assure you as a non-biased fan of both women and someone who's witnessed both of their careers first hand, it's true. There was pre-Madonna and post-Madonna epochs of pop music. Now it's more relevant to study the industry from a pre-Gaga perspective.

Women and LGBT, drag, trans… when this video very first came out- remember? Aired on MTV once and was pulled off immediately? All I could think was about how true it was, that being seen as feminine was degrading, just like it says. In years past it would come up on my playlist and I’d think ‘remember when it was like that?’ Now, these decades later, it hits that same spot all over again. For a boy to look like a girl is degrading… or newly illegal. Just wild.

A track I didn't dig much at the time it came out, that I'm now appreciating - "Hollywood." interesting to see "what it feels like for a girl" as someone's numero uno. When you're a young girl you really don't get the messages behind the music. Here, you just see Madonna driving around with an old lady but as a woman now, you see so much symbolism. The prob is not there, the problem is that some people don't like to see a mature woman with plastic surgery or not "keep working" as a young woman (attitude, clothes, make-up...). When it's the singer Mick Jagger (face-lift too) it's ok but when it's a woman it's become a problem... Anyway, all her whole life Madonna fought against prejudices and never listened right-minded people. The same haters from the past : when she was young, it was not ok, she was ugly, now she's old, it's always not ok... And the top, some of them tell us now that she's became ugly, implied that she was beautiful before... Really funny
