Snowdonia in Northern Wales is perfect for epic landscape photography. If you manage to get some "bad" weather with showers and low clouds you're in luck for creating some spectacular photos. In this episode we'll visit the Lone Tree, The Boat House at Llyn Ogwen, A view towards the mountain Tryfan and I'll tell the story about my hikes to the top of the Glyders. We will start out at Tintern Abbey in Southern Wales. As always the video is full of tips and tricks in regard to composition, light and practical stuff related to photography. In many ways this video could work as a landscape photography tutorial.

I like 2 and 4 the most. number two because the tree is the star of the photo, and the colors adds to the atmosphere. number four because of all the lead in lines, and the different layers of the photo. Nice and dramatic sky.

Number 5 is my favourite. I have climbed Tryfan many times and in all weathers and it is always rewarding. Love the moody sky contrasting with the smooth water of Lyn Ogwen. The foreground stream nicely balances with the dark mountain. All of your photos have a dark foreboding quality which strikes a chord in me. Thank you.

A great video for a number of reasons. Not only is this about photography, but also what natural treasures we have in the UK. The nice touch is Made stating how long it will take to hike, the clothes you will need, footway, first aid all of the things that might be forgotten in a pursuit of getting that epic photo ! Well done Mads

❤ the first shot. Love the lonely tree, goes to show that can definitely get great shots with crappy weather. The boathouse was super nice. You can see why it’s so popular. Love the mood of the mountain scene. Castle of the winds is so cool, crazy venture to get to though.

I've only recently in the last 6 months started my photography journey, a bit ago subscribed to your channel going through a lot of videos and I find this Gem. only half way through the video and loving it so far. I live about 20 minutes from Snowdonia and watching something so personal and picking up tips along the way has been very enjoyable! Love the vid and also good pronunciations of the places a lot of people find Welsh very difficult! Thank you for doing what you do.

Another great episode from the series Mads, a fantastic area I've visited before but I've not visited some of the locations you did here - you must do loads of planning for your trips! Number 5 for me this time, I love the composition and how the shape of the river reflects the shape of the mountains forming an oval shape in the image. Looking forward to the next episode!

It’s great to see you enjoying Snowdonia, which is my stomping ground. I think you did exceptionally well those conditions which looked more challenging than usual! You would love Snowdonia in mid winter after a snowfall! The Glyders are always unpredictable - I’ve had a blinding blue sky after a snowfall with visibility around five miles and also I’ve been up there in June with visibility around 50 metres…

Mads, Loved this video, one of the things I love about photography, is the challenge of the shot in some cases. I see you doing this all the time to get that shot. I love the locations you have been to, love watching your videos and seeing the compositions you are able to walk away with. Love the music you put with your videos! Extremely creative. Not sure if you even realized that you created a quotable moment here. I will be using this and attributing it to you from now on. "When the conditions are as they are, the art is the work with it, or around it, and adjust to the scene." I love that. Can't wait for Covide to get under control to get out there. I have a trip to Japan in April! here is Hoping!!! Thank you for this video Mads, great as usual.!

I agree with windy castle (it’s what my family call it) there are no real ways to show it’s glory in an image, I’ve tried. Absolutely stunning view towards mountain Tryfan, I like the last one the best. I also found that long exposures with around 1/2s shutter time work best for waterfalls and the like, it's the strands of water that look fantastic. By the way, if you find bad weather favorable, north-west Germany is a perfect location, I should consider myself lucky every day ;)

Just stumbled upon a quote by Albert Watson regarding his efforts made to shoot the old Man of Storr: "“I deliberately went in October and November because I was hoping for bad weather - and of course I got it. “I find blue sky with white fluffy clouds deadly when it comes to creating a powerful landscape and I was looking for wind and rain and mist.” /End Quote. I thought this fits perfectly to your observations.

Another fantastic vlog Mads. I think for me it is either 5 or 6 as they just look a bit more epic with the dramatic clouds, but I like all the pics.

I did this trip 2 years ago and visited some of these places but you have shed new light on what to shoot and I love the "bad" weather. Don't do the long hikes though to old for that.

I like 5 because of the strong foreground element in the flowing water very well contrasted by the dark, moody mountains in the background. :)

I feel like this should be shown to Brits as an information film. So many families head up with their kids, wearing sandals and t-shirts thinking it's just like walking through the local park! No kidding, I've been been up in these mountains in ful winter conditions with ice axe and crampons yet passed families with their kids all in trainers and with umbrellas in hand. Crazy. Also, I've walked these places at all times of year and in all conditions but didn't bother taking a proper camera with me. Really wish I could rewind and take my camera. Hard to get out now as I have a young family, but will definitely take all my kit next time!

I am completely fan of your videos where we discover fantastic sites and where we learn a lot. 5.6 and 2.3 provides superb images of this region that I do not know yet. There is in the video a passage with your wife in silhouette between the rock formations in the clouds which is superb and who deserved to be in the 6 finals. I do not know how you do not have drops on your filters in such conditions. A thing?. Welcome from Paris.Thank you

You've done it again Mads. Stunning vlog, Stunning images. I choose image 5. I too love the imagery of Lord of the rings and you nailed it with this image. The best compliment a photographer can receive is the phrase " I wish I had taken this shot "....I do. I can't wait for the Lake District vlog. It's an area I'm more familiar with. Thanks again Mads. :)

Hi Peter! Thanks for sharing another episode. It really takes a special mind set to do photography, video reportage, hiking and Scrambling in difficult weather conditions. No 2 is my favourite for the tranquility the composition transmits. I would call a honourable mention to the first photograph with the rocks on the foreground and the castle in the background you showed on the video from the top of the Glyders - despite the very difficult weather conditions, I would say it's as good as it gets. Meaning you might live close by and return to the scene week after week and it could take you years or a lifetime to get that shot. ps. A suggestion for future reference: On long hikes in isolated areas I always turn my phone to flight mode. The phone keeps hunting for service due to the topography and isolation of the place (hence that interference) and It saves battery in case of an emergency.

Great vlog Mads and cracking images, I've been to the Ogwen valley many many times though it's hardly in my backyard either. A three hour drive from home and I'm there. A little less than your travel time I guess 🤣. I planned to spend a night on top of the Gilders last year and catch both sunrise and sunset from the castle of the winds in one visit but it never materialized due to low cloud and rain forecast each time so I'll certainly make an effort to do it this year. With a bit of luck (and careful planning) might possibly get a cloud inversion too which would be epic. Keep up the good work Mads and look forward to seeing your future vlogs, more importantly stay safe.
