One thing is to use your composition techniques in a landscape photography environment you are used to. Another is to transfer those techniques to something else. In this weeks video, I discuss a whole lot of composition while photographing a tulip field in Denmark. I focus more on the intimate details instead of the big vistas. There is a lot to learn from an experience like this. Flower photography is not like landscape photography but the basic composition techniques are the same.

Landscape photographers should care about flowers and trees. Tulips!🌷 I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I watched it through twice. You saw the tulips for me. The single pink tulip-impeccable. Also the graceful grouping of the white tulips-lovely. The diagonal with the purple and green-nice! Where I live in South Carolina, it is hard to grow tulips en masse. If the squirrels 🐿 don’t eat them, then they don’t get enough chill hours so they bloom on really short stalks meaning the tulip head doesn’t extend much beyond the foliage-odd rather than elegant. Thanks again!🌷

A Dutch family moved to Rhode Island a few years ago. They have since opened a tulip farm with multiple locations. It’s incredibly beautiful. One thing I have found is that for me, the wide angle lens does not work well. It’s tempting because you can easily be in a position where the tulips completely surround you, but the thing is, the ground doesn’t look good. It’s packed dirt/earth which is a grey brown colour. I am going this weekend. Bought tickets for Saturday late afternoon. I think I’ll bring a polarizer and I might experiment with an ND filter for some extra long exposures. Thanks for the video

Something totally different .... i like it because it keeps landscape photographing fresh and interesting ..... the next big scenes are maybe viewed in a different way. I'm really curious about Gran Canaria because it's on my list for so long, first as a family trip with photographing possibilities and maybe now because of you we go and take this vacation ! Now you are influencing not only me but also the family :) ...hilarious... Thank you Mads for everything ..... video, education, inspiration and being you !!!!

Thanks for another educational and inspiring video. It’s difficult to photograph tulips and flowers in general in an original way, what you said about the importance of focus was illuminating! Beautiful shots, the white ones from below are amazing. You’re very generous with your clear explanations.

I prefer the yellow in the portrait mode because it isn't distracted by the large yellow band of the yellow tulip row behind the red row with the yellow tulip. I truly appreciate all the explanation of your approach. I really like the purple diagonal tulip shot. You got a bunch of good ones that I like.

Beautiful work! It’s nice to see something other than Iceland & The Faroes. They’re beautiful, too, no doubt. But everyone & their brother is posting videos of them. It’s nice to see your artistry used in a different arena. (Btw, how does someone give this video a thumbs down?! That’s just ridiculous.)

Hi Mads! Once again you had me holding my breath AND I learned something of value. Thanks for sharing and Cheers from BC!

That was interesting. I appreciated you going into your thought process of each of your images. We don't have tulip fields where I live, but we have sunflowers aplenty. They are just now coming into bloom, and I got some nice shots of one of the fields a couple evenings ago. Tonight looks like it will be good, too. I'm going to return and see if I can use some of the ideas you shared here. Thanks.

When I read that your next video is about a tulip-field, I was like: Oh boy... how exciting (insert sarcasm) but I must say that your compositions from a low angle are truely great! I think this is what seperates good photographers from the lesser ones. People usually do epic landscapes which are always impressive to anyone, even if the photo's are not that great, the landscape still makes up for it. Making good quality photo's from basicly any subject is what makes someone a good photographer and you keep nailing it every time. I strongly encourage you to keep making photo's from other subjects from time to time because there is a lot to learn here.

Hello Mads, lovely little vlog to watch with wonderful colours. Likewise, I agree with the comments below of Erich Stocker. The top band of yellow flowers were a distraction from the main event of that single yellow flower. But as always thank you, for sharing your skills.

Thank you, Mads, for this different video on tulips in Denmark. It comes at a perfect time for me because I have been studying Kathleen Clemens and her technique with flowers. I’m learning how to create layers with flowers and texture backgrounds. Also, our local arboretum offers a beautiful tulip display each March, so this instruction is perfect! Did you consider ICM (in camera movement) to get a horizontal blurry abstract of the tulip rows? It could be very interesting...... Thanks, again.
