Great informative content as always! I think on the topic of China, the policy up to this point has been for it to - paraphrasing Ding Xiaoping - bide its time and build its capabilities. And this has worked well for a while, but the belligerence of US empire has gotten to a point where China can no longer bide its time if it really wants to build its capabilities, it has to tackle the issue of hegemonism head on.

I must say that your comments on China's more aggressive policy in the Americas seem to embrace the kind of short-term thinking and reaction-to-the-immediate that characterize American policy. I think the sharpening of the global anti-imperialist structure we are witnessing is no accident, it is the product of very long-term planning by both China and Russia- longer in China's case. The avoidance of direct conflict with the west that both countries exhibited for decades was based on an objective analysis of the relative correlation of both economic and military forces between those nations and the west. Both countries have been developing the power to resist the west, and, seeing this, the west has provoked conflict earlier than either China or Russia would have wished. However, the conduct of the war in Ukraine is simply accelerating the on-going changes in the correlation of forces in favor of the keystone powers of resistance, from Russia and China to DPRK, Iran, and Venezuela. Both China and Russia are, in partnership, pursuing a path to minimize the scale of open military conflict while promoting economic growth and strategic partnerships that continue to undermine western power. I don't think there's really a lot of- 'well, we tried to be nice but that didn't work out, so we're changing path.' Rather, they recognize that objective conditions have changed, and its time for them to move on to stages of conflict that they always knew were coming.

My Dad was a USW (steel) - our family had a very humble standard of living while the UAW workers made a relative fortune while half sleeping on the job (no exaggeration). Yes, times have changed and standard of living should with that. If any USW worker left their job today, could they make even 75% of what they make now? $25-$33/hr USW average. An engineer with 30 years experience doesn’t make a pension unless in a rare position - the whole country has a lower standard of living now - why should UAW or military people be paid pensions? The tiered system is necessary - times have changed. Think it is bad now? - wait 5 more years. Fair is a function of the times. I agree the greed of the corporatists is out of control, though.

I was part of a McKinsey transformation team. The work culture there makes you feel like you're doing good work. But zooming out, you see the way your work is institutionalizing anti-labour practices for the sake of maximizing productivity. And you see the way your work is manipulated to make McKinsey benefit the most, followed by the client's c-suite and board, and with almost no regard for the employees and the public at large.

Garrison I agree totally. I've had similar experiences. One in UK in the late 1960's and one with a major international bank in the 1980s. It doesn't change much in these sorts of institutions. They probably grew out of the Boris Johnson Public School boy style of education. Some of them never grow up and media find it funny and marketable, until they don't. Meanwhile all sort of damage is done to society.

any good EV now gets 500-600+ miles per charge and can get an extra 100 miles from a 10 minute charge so that BS. lots of charging stations quite a few are free. If the government gave EV manufacturers the 15 billion subsidies per year they give to oil companies then 600+ miles per charge would be the minimum shortly. Get a grip

Most new trucks get 500+ miles to a charge and can even hook up to your house to use it as a backup generator to power necessities in your house in a power outage. Several cars get over 600 miles per charge. And fast charge, where you get 100 miles per 10 minute charge. Those are the facts

@@calipsogal Trump attempted disengagement from the imperialist project on a number of fronts, but had no real control of the pentagon or the state department. The American system of 'checks and balances' is very well designed to stop mavericks from getting anything done. While Trump did manage to slow down the Ukraine project, set up the end of the Afghanistan project and limit the damage of the Syria project, his ideology and class position don't allow him to be a real anti-imperialist. He's more about trying to keep the empire to do especially stupid, self-destructive stuff. Which is still head and shoulders above any other politician with a shot at the White House.
