Here's my suggestion, since I hadn't seen one yet. Put your photo etch parts on a *hard* surface to cut them. I use a smooth gloss ceramic tile (random bathroom tile that I've stuck little felt feet to). The hard surface helps keep things nice and flat so the knife can cut without bending or warping the aluminum.

The approach to handling/applying Photo etch in this video is Savage and Barbaric! However all is forgiven for admitting your inexperience to the viewers.

Yeah, it was a trial and error for us 1st timers! If we can put on the parts, I am sure even mid level builders should be able too

Just a friendly tip: If you get CA anywhere you don't want it, just lightly use a q-tip dipped in some Acetone. Not so much that it's dripping. Just enough to make it wet. It'll make quick work of it.

It's actually not hard to apply etch metal parts, but you do need to have the proper tools like a plier or metal ruler to bend those parts

I just ordered these! Hope it comes with water slides, I'll definitely be studying this video to get some tips and tricks. Any other big insights on using these parts? It'll be my first time using them, but not my first time using metal + super glue. Definitely planning to disassemble parts to work on them before hand.

Hi there, Zul here. Dude, if you’re more experienced in handling these you’re gonna have a much easier time than we did doing this. Though there is a part we forgot to mention. When you get to the lower legs (the huge umbrella calves), you’re going to be applying these THIN etching strips to these very SHALLOW channels. So, I’d suggest planning on how you’re gonna apply adhesive to this as to not let the glue bleed out. Lastly, the upgrade kit does not come with an instruction manual. So, you’re definitely go be relying on reference photos. Thankfully we did include said reference photos in the vid. If anything else, good luck

Some photo etch parts looks cool but really stand out against the painted plastic. I would like to see a kit use these for detail but be painted over for a more seamless color scheme.

I think it looks awesome, I've seen a video of someone that painted the Zaku gun with the photo etch parts and that makes them blend with the suit much better, you can paint the etched parts in same color as the attached part or slightly off color for some color separation.

Just got my set today... Not worried about the actual process, but worried about the contrast of the metal details to the rest of the kit. It is so gorgeous on its own just snapped up. I may end up with a nonstop itch to keep customizing to the point I need a backup rg sazabi I leave alone lol

Hey thanks for watching. I would suggest doing a gloss finish on the kit to make the add on look more natural with the kit

>putting superglue on a cutting mat *BIG OOF*
@MFKR696
@MFKR696 4 жыл бұрын
It's just a cutting mat, bro. It's meant to be abused. A little bit of acetone on a q-tip will fix that in a hurry anyways, and that's in the odd case where you can't just flake it off with a razor blade.
@erek200
@erek200 4 жыл бұрын
@@MFKR696 at least put it on some masking tape on the mat, then put the super glue on it. You can get rid of the glue immediately by ripping the tape off, and the glue wont soak into the map. God knows I've abused my cutting mat enough.
@MFKR696
@MFKR696 4 жыл бұрын
@@erek200 Fair enough. I just don't have a lot of time to waste on menial stuff, so if I get CA on my mat, if it's bad enough, I'll use acetone to knock it down. If not, I just leave it until it chips away on its own. Then again, I don't see much point in keeping your cutting mat under your work while assembling things. Personally, I cover the business end of my work table with paper. If the mat doesn't need to be there, it should not be there.

If people need to be told how to use Cyanoacrylate (which their parents should have done a long-ass time ago btw), they really have no business working with PE parts. They're clearly of the "I glued myself to the table" crowd lol. I once knew a guy so stupid that he glued his palms together with CA, and then when I told him to use Acetone, he said what amounted to "Fuck that. I'm too tough for Acetone" and peeled his hands apart with all his strength. Let's just say there was an ambulance ride involved very shortly after. The sound his skin made, coupled with his screaming shortly thereafter, still makes me cringe to this day when I think about it. 'Twas quite the memorable sound. I would describe it, but that would only gross everyone out. It will suffice to say that if you don't know what you're doing, stay the hell away from Super-Glue. It's not to be trifled with, and much like me, it does not suffer fools. One should have a healthy level of respect for such things.
