This resonates so much, sorry this is gonna be long cos I literally type it all out to kind of deal with it. I recently pulled away from my childhood friend. We have been friends 10+ years and when I had low self esteem and no boundaries I let alot of things slide to keep the friendship. 2yrs ago on my birthday and at a slumber party she was envious of the attention I was getting from our new friends. I felt sick to see that side of her. Its so wierd when you see that hateful, jealous, envious glint in your supposed childhood friends eyes just because you're dressed good on your birthday and your new friends are celebrating you. I still let it go, and some months later she invited me out just to flake on me and leave me waiting and her excuse was she "totally forgot". After that I was planning a vacation and she only wanted to go when my other friend was going and dropped out everytime that friend couldnt make it. It was a clear signal to me that she didnt like me enough to vacation with me. But she confused me because she was still very nice and super sweet and friendly to my face??? I had a spiritual awakening and Spirit is what made me wiser to her 🎭. Last year it was a special occasion and her sister invited me and ny sister over and I saw my childhood friend give her sister a dirty look for inviting us. She then proceeded to flake on us the entire day. And after being stood up 🎭 she put her nice mask back on and blamed it on too many unexpected guests and it getting out of hand😡😡😡. I knew she was lying so I tried to cut her off but I had a vacation planned so I had to play nice. She did scramble for my attention when i tried to cut her off too, like suddenly she was worried about losing my friendship? Then why would she treat me that way in the first place... she just expected me to be dumb enough to accept it. A year later I realised she had a crab mentality. Everything was a competition. I found it exhausting. She also did some other lowkey underhanded things. And finally she invited me out and tried to flake AGAIN. But this time I just decided to distance myself again. I still replied to her, I was just curt and polite and declined invitations. Tbh I was still nicer than she deserved. Except she is so persistent, she just starts a new convo as if nothing is going on. When she FULL WELL knew what was going on. I then discovered that she had been spinning a narrative that I was jealous of her so distant from her and using any vulnerable stories I told her to justify it!!! And calling me rude. If you looked at messeges its just me being polite and brief 😂. No one outside of it would know about the undercurrent of tension. Despite talking all that 💩 she messeges me "feels like we havent talked in ages! What are you up to and whats your summer plans, lets grab a drink or meal soon" ??? That in itself shows how 🎭🎭🎭 she can be. I decided to play fake nice straight back and kept my cards to myself. And told her everything was going great for myself. The thing I sort of regret though is before I knew she was talking 💩 and scorned. I said Id take her out for her birthday. Last year she paid for an expensive birthday dinner to get back in my good graces. I always felt guilty for accepting her 💰. So I just want to have a fake nice dinner and return the favour and pull away again. But now im thinking thats not a great idea .... hopefully she protests 👁👁 its like I cant get her off my skin though...
