For variation, maybe You can take Inquisitor instead of assassin, since: 1. The Inquisitor skill uses wisdom, so it stacks with the monk stats. 2. You can flavor Your slayer into a "Sherlock Holmes" character that denies magic entirely.

Ranger - Monster Hunter is a good anti-mage class. It’s called “Monster Hunter” but it’s abilities are more like Wizard killer.

Surprised Paladin, Oath of the Ancients didn't get mentioned. 7th level they get Aura of Warding that gives resistance to damage from spells. So if you were a satyr / yuan-ti you get advantage on saving throws vs magic, and you are resistant to damage dealt by spells.

This video gives me an idea for a new character, even if it's a slight troll one. A grim-faced, no nonsense Satyr who hates magic so much that their bond is to wipe magic from existence. Their nemesis? Mystra, of course.

Instead of assassin you could take thief, as a bonus action steal their spell casting components or archane focus.

@@benry007 one of the options is to use your cunning action to make a dexterity slight of hand check as a bonus action, if the mage simply wears it on there person (as in an amulet) instead of actively holding it (as in a wand) then I think most rule a slight of hand check would aply to lift it, otherwise you would have to follow the normal rules for disarming someone.

Rune Knight Devine Sorcerer is a wonderful anti mage, you bonus action Giants Might grapple them with advantage then Action Surge subtly cast Silence, this combo with Enlarge helps with Dragons too, especially if you're an Aaracockra.

Satyr Paladin, by level 7 can add CHA bonus to all saves (including CHA saves) max out CHA so you get at least a +5 in everything, WIS and CHA at least +10, then 3 levels barbarian for feral senses, and 7+ Rogue or monk for evasion

Great idea and i do really like the twist on the satyr's happy nature. Also really loved some of your expanded concepts a greta range of options to showcase it is not just wizards you can go for. And finally when ted was describing the satyr acting all normal to begin with and then suddenly darkness and death...i wondered if the satyr would be Spanish....because no one expects the Spanish satyr

I was looking at a possible Satyr mage slayer build myself and was looking at a mix of Rogue Swashbuckler with Warlock Hexblade. Also using Haunted One for background and taking Mage Slayer when I can take a feat. I've seen others look at Ranger and Warlock.

*I love it .* Monks are great for versatility , adaptability & survival . Sentinel would also be great for a mage slayer . I absolutely love all monk builds . Monks go great with everything . They really do .

As you were going along, I was thinking the build seemed a bit hyper-focused for adventuring, but then the idea of Fey Courts fielding a joint organization of mage slayer assassin Satyrs is awesome.

I mean....you guys basically just made the Youngest Gruff right? Fey, traumatic experience with a wizard, Seelie court 'troubleshooter'? There are a few questionable mechanic choices (like the double evasion) but the idea of making the Gruff bros in DnD is great, makes me want to do a full squad of them

Monster slayer is the most underrated sublclass in the game and it has the best capstones ability right nest to the cavalier and illusionist

Gnome for adv on Int, Wis, Chr Saves; (5) Barbarian w/ Bear Totem for (2) attacks per round and Reckless Attacks; (4) Cleric w/ Silence Spell, Every escape spell requires V component; (8) Rogue for 4d6 sneak attack, uncanny dodge, and Evasion; (3) Fighter Eldridge Knight for Weapon Bond; Duel Weld Scimitars; Feats: Sentinel, Warcaster; Cast silence spell on caster, sentinel to keep them there, proficient in con saves, warcaster advantage on con saves; Reckless attacks to get advantage on attacks for rogue 4d6 sneak attacks; fighter action surge for (2) actions in 1 rd. Barbarian allows for knocking down melee, Silence spell & Sentinel locks down casters

If you land that stunning strike, use your next round of action to bind their hands behind their back. That will be really inconvenient for most spell casters. Especially at lower levels. Or have a locking iron helmet with no eye or air holes and secure it to their head. Could pretty much be an iron sphere. Maybe with some spikes on the inside like a miniature iron maiden. Secured with a padlock or, if you want to fight fire with fire, arcane lock it to their head.

I like this build idea quite a bit. I think it would drive my DM bonkers. 😁 I think if I did this I'd sacrifice some sneak attack damage to get diamond soul from monk and also not have evasion twice.

before I watch: I wish to claim the Idea of a Satyr that thinks Mages suck the fun out of life due to a mage screwing up a party that they attended, this one was the only survivior, now instead of becoming dulled by the experience, they now with to spread merriment by stoping magic from being missused ever again (they also wish to remember the fun exciting parts of the bad memory as a coping mechanism)!

I'd like to see a what wizard could do if they could spend years preparing their stronghold including the surrounding territory. Factoring in the relationship to the surrounding population. Including use of allies( if any)to help in the defences.

Daggers can be Monk Weapons, so the Damage Die will go up almost in tandum with the Sneak Attack Die. (i think?)

An alternative to assassin is mastermind and inquisitive, they can give you an edge over the enemy by learning something about them.

I'd like to see an AL legal Mage Slayer build without using monster races.

I’d say a Variant Human (+1 Str/Dex, +1 Con/Int) whichever you’d rather go for. Pick the Investigation skill as your bonus skill, Monster Hunter background or Sage for finding lore on magical beings and such, Alert feat at first level for bonus initiative, not getting surprised and such, then take Tough, Magic Initiate, War Caster, and whatever else fits your fancy. I’d say Eldritch Knight makes for the best mage slayer. Being able to cast cantrips and attack as a bonus action, give disadvantage to enemy spellcasters you attack, along with multiple attacks and high AC/damage potential makes you amazing.

Huh was thinking of a more Ancient Paladin focus build when I suggested a Mage Slayer build. But now this makes me think that a monk Paladin build (while difficult to manage the stats) could be interesting

in my setting, the goblin/quickling/kobald tribe, lunar shadow, coat there darts in lemon juice when fighting a spellcaster, the lemon juice adds more pain without an increase in damage, making concentration checks dc increase by 3.

I run a war wizard light cleric with half plate yuan-ti with the same premise. It is nearly impossible to hit and great against mages.

This one does not. Technically Way of Shadow monk uses ki to duplicate the effects of a handful of spells but that's as far as this build goes
