Maggie Nichols is a very gifted athlete and performed well on all four events. This was not her best routine, but she was solid on all events for Team USA. I’m sorry she was not selected for the 2016 Olympic team, but she sure was a fabulous elite and then super fantastic NCAA gymnast. I’m very proud of courageous young woman. Cheers to you, Swaggy Maggie!

I really don't think they should credit wolf turns like Maggie's where she's practically standing up. Isn't the whole point to keep one leg in a fully tucked position?

The back of her calf and the back of her thigh are touching throughout. Can't get more 'tucked' than that!

@@caitlinoconnell9883 ehhh, she definitey comes up higher during the turn itself, meaning if the calf and thigh are touching it’s only marginally true. I agree that the position is higher than it should be, but more than I care to critique a wolf turn, I would just say godspeed the day this skill goes back into the shadows. :/

she did a great job!!!! way to go Maggie!!! if she can get some more stretch to those feet she will look so elegant. komova has larger feet and its an advantage as far as extension look

I hope she works on her toe point. Her feet are a bit above average in size and it makes it extra noticeable. Otherwise, I think she did a lovely job especially since it was her first time up.

I agree. komovas feet are large as well and she uses that to her advantage and looks even more elegant! it can be a huge asset or huge downfall

+mrsjojo xoxo Komova has beautiful... everything. I think she needs to strengthen her core. She should add some extensive core exercises into her workout regime. Her wobbles usually look like they come from within her body rather than making a mistake on the beam, if that makes any sense at all. I'm glad to see her back though. From what I saw last year I didn't think she was going to make the world team let alone be as good as she even was.

why was her 13.9 beam chosen again? if this was her showing Martha her strength, its not on beam...

Because gabby fell on beam in quals, so she was taken out and Maggie was put in. Every gymnast has their weak event (aside from queen Simone).

+SimplyNay Yeah, I think I would have used Kocian over NIchols (assuming Kocian was hitting consistently in training). She scored in the low 14s in qualification. Beam scoring was harsh this year.

Kocian isnt as consistent on beam as she is on bars, and after qualifications, marta needed consistency. Maggie has shown nothing but consistency.

They chose Maggie because she Aly and simone were the only three to go above a 14. though kocians 14 flat beam was extremely graceful and beautiful to watch, grace doesn't matter anymore and Martha like every single coach and coordinator in the world, cares more about who can bring in higher scores.

+Zyxcba Well, she could go in the direction of some teams and favor style over substance. But it's substance and consistency that gets the numbers, and numbers that get the medals. So... I'm content to admire the ballerinas as they sit in 6th or 8th place after the rotation, and congratulate the bold ones on the podium. :)
