We need more information about comparisons, I am interested but it is very pricey. If you get magic beans + the blue ray your looking at nearly 500USD, and there is a pro version of magic beans that is even more. What does it do to the subwoofers? What was the comparison with YPAOs eq vs Magic beans? I think I received the value from my Mini DSP purchase for sub calibration but my feeedback is I am a little skeptical this combo is worth the $$$. I think this is a cool innovative way to go about calibrating but need to get the performance for the money the tools are charging, I'm not sure i'm there yet. Im in Canada as well so I'm looking at 800CDN or close to, thats a tough ask. Great video, love the programs just the price needs to come down speaking for myself, I respect the time put in; I'm just not there yet.

Agreed, it's pretty pricey. However, I don't think there's an upgrade you can do for your system that will have an impact like this.

So Magic Beans only handles the PEQ but not other parameters such as per frequency phase or any advanced bass management you could do using REW or MSO? I'm not sure you could even trust the level and distance matching of the useless Yamaha YPAO...

I would definitely double check the distance & levels. A laser distance reader and an SPL meter are an enthusiast's best friends! Good luck!!

I did the levels and distance manually and compared the YPAO results, they were pretty much the same. YPAO's eq is what makes it bad.

Those seven bands are just showing you seven different frequencies they adjusted for each speaker they’re not supposed to be the same. If the selected band doesn’t go below 500 Hz simply move down to the next band. Bands one through seven are just seven points it gives for adjustments, within those seven spaces you can cover the entire range. Well, at least 15.6 Hz to 16 kHz.

Awesome walkthrough! :) Would be curious to hear experience on how it compares to Dirac and maybe even more Room Perfect and Trinnov that doesn’t use a standard target curve.

Dirac uses a generic curve and gives you general bass and treble controls. The Trinnov also has pre-determined curves you can choose from or you can manually draw in a curve. MB supports both Dirac and Trinnov.

Thanks for the video,I did magic beans on my demon 3800h with DLBC and it sounds incredible !! I also used magic beans in my bedroom on my Onkyo RZ50 with Dirac and again the sound is incredible !! Well worth the investment of magic beans and Spatial Audio tool kit. Thanks to u and Joe for your great work on these tools to get my audio systems working to its potential !!!

@@thomasleeb4790 With DLBC everything sounds great,cohesive.When I inputted the magic beans true target curves I can hear more in the highs and midrange,the bass is a tad more impactful.I hear more sounds out of the demos that I use to test how it sounds.For instance on the Dolby atmos clip amaze I can now hear the bees and insect sounds in the beginning of that clip then I ever heard before,I put mb target curves in slot 1 and dlbc in slot 2 and switch back and forth that is how I can hear the difference.hope this helps.

How did you determine your crossover point on the main left and right channels? I've had to change mine from 80hz to 110hzdue to room modes. it was creating a large dip at the cossover point of 80hz. Just curious, I know how to find that out manually but does Magic Beans show you any crossover point options?

I used the SACT Crossover section to determine the crossovers.

Hi, one question regarding the mm measurement. Just doing a circle is only 2 dimensional, normally you move the mic in an 3d ellipse also a little forwards and backwards

You can do that for the MLP measurement. Just make sure the mic is where your ears might be. The method is forgiving when measuring at a distance.

Finally some Yamaha love---Dont have a laptop so I could probably use an iPad but it might be a huge pain. Do you have a recommendation for all the hardware you're going to use beside the Umik mike? Will need some cable adaptor if im going to use an iPad. Your description is very easy to follow and FOMO is going to keep pushing me forward till I finally jump on the beans.

@TechnoDad no. I'm using the Accu EQ because dirac is limited on Android phones through the Onkyo controller app. They wouldn't let you make adjustments after calibration. And until recently, dirac didn't have a version of their app that would work on my phone. So now I have installed dirac's new version of their app on my phone, but I need a umik 1. So when I get that, I'll probably give dirac another try. I do have to say Accu EQ is actually okay. I know people diss on it, and it may not be the best of the best, but it's not bad. I think it's better than Pioneer's MCAAC Calibration. @ripewaveaudio has a good 3 part video on the TX-RZ50, but he had an iPhone and you can make adjustments after calibration on an iPhone.

I have the A6A, and this is nice to see. Not as nice as my Marantz AV 10 with Dirac Live though. That web interface though! So fully featured compared to the Denon/Marantz line. I wish they could compete. Even the interface on the front of the receiver is great too because it shows speaker level output in realtime.

@@TechnoDad Yahama hides the good stuff. You have to `/Setup` to see the actual web interface that you were in. I don't know why it's not simpler to reach.

Transferring the MB data to the Yamaha seems like a real error prone PITA. Somebody (Joe, I'm looking at you!) needs to figure out a way to do a HTTP GET for the PEQ web page, make the appropriate text substitutions from the MB output, and then do a HTTP POST to send the modified web page to the Yamaha.

Hi Channa, a question for you. As I have 2 subwoofers connected to my Yamaha and magic beans measures the LFE, do I put the same PEQ to both subs? Because yamaha YPAO measures the subs independentely

I noticed when you measured near field the left front speaker with the pink noise that the speaker naturally rolled off hard around 150hz….. shouldn’t the crossover be set around there instead of 80hz?

That's because his MLP is right against the rear wall. If he would move up, the target curve wouldn't show that much of a rise.

No more Yamaha for me after the whole fake HDMI 2.1 upgrade fiasco. Interesting that something like this exists though, I don’t see why there shouldn’t be more 3rd party EQ calibration software for our receivers. It would certainly extend their usability and lifespan.

I'm not sure what you're asking specifically. The bands are somewhat fixed on Yamaha. The values MB puts out are limited only in the resolution of the system it's going into. We can export 1000 points if we wanted to.

I think they are exact, as that would be what you need to get the correct curve.
