Love Max Maven, reading his book right now, learning so much

I’ve had this for a while now and I love it. Easy, fun and strong. However, I agree with you that enough time was not spent on teaching. There are different handlings and various nuances that someone of Max’s experience and love of verbosity probably should have been offered in the teaching. I, personally, do not hand the spectator the deck. I don’t usually let them ‘peek’ at a card. I riffle through the corners of the cards with my thumb and they tell me, “stop”. I jog the corner of the card out while looking away and ask them if they can see it and instruct them to remember it. I then go through the divination process with the scripted miscall. Then I spread out the cards and ask them to stop me when they see it. When they don’t see it, I go through the cards slower and can openly show the full faces of certain cards to sell it that it’s a normal deck without calling any such attention to it. Then I do the reveal, (and I have incorporated a few different ways to do that, as well; taking the focus off the deck. The trick isn’t about the deck anyway. It gets the reactions I love and no one has ever asked to see or hold the deck. Not once. Get yourself a OWF deck with the appropriate card, and you can give out the card as the deck is put away. This is a good way to incorporate some magic into a mentalism show. Because it starts being about reading someone’s mind by divining a card; but when the magic hits, it’s STILL mentalism because you got the card right and, somehow, you also snuck it out. …Or made them see something that was never there the whole time. I think this is one of those rare magic effects that fit in either a magic act or a mentalism act.

Thanks again David. Max is missed and has fooled me more times than I can count. This effect was published by Ken Krenzel without gaffs sleight of hand only (who would have thought). I later worked out a few ideas with Ken with a few tips from Rene Lavand should be obvious why. That being said, I think the effect no matter how it is accomplished, is one of the greats in magic.

I made on of these decks prior to it being available pre-made, and then purchased it once it was. This is EXTREMELY well made, and definitely worth buying . It's on great stock as well. Using a right handed volunteer is definitely the way to go, and there are easy ways to insure this just through simple observation that's never failed me. Great review 👏

There is a similar trick to this. Uses a sven deck approach. The deck can be given to a spectator and no one has ever noticed. I've used this trick for a couple of years and no one has ever caught me on it. Not certain the method on Pocket Nightmare, but it seems like it's more complicated than what I have.

First time I performed this trick I failed miserably. It’s been sitting in my box of magic since then.

David Copperfield did this for us backstage at the MGM.
