In some tricks the magician doesn't perform the trick the 'assistants' perform the trick and the magician provides misdirection. In other tricks the magician is responsible for the trick and the assistants perform misdirection. In many tricks the magician is partly responsible for the trick plus performs some misdirection while the assistants are partly responsible for the trick plus perform some misdirection.
