I use to love it when Slim would open a set with this tune. In smaller clubs, he would walk from the back of the audience to the stage while belting out the lyrics. He certainly was a crowd pleaser.
In this video, I see so many faces filled with admiration for what the blues is all about.
Nothing but pure raw emotion, wearing ones heart out on a sleeve.
I hear you Slim and James. And, feel you too.

When I was 17, I was playing either piano, bass or drums behind many of these geniuses when they came to Bakersfield, CA in the 1960s. They usually came to the Cotton Club on Lakeview Ave, or out in the town's outskirts across Brundage Lane aka as "The Country", where there was another Blues night club named 'The Brown Derby'. In this video, James was too weak and ill to hold his breath long enough to hit those notes that he tore the world up with back in the day. It was good t o see him again, but it brought tears to my eyes.

I love this song. I love this version of this song (that cancels out the six dislikes and however many more there are going to be---anyone who came looking for Magic Slim or James Cotton couldn't have marked a thumb down anyway). Such a beautiful tune, thank you CBGizzmo Biedro.

And a quick 10 second appearance by me, when we realized James didn't have the right Key harp...... so I got the correct harp out to him.... :) Gonna really miss Slim.....

The song is in the key of A. Cotton started plying in first position - the harp is in the same key as the song - A. Halfway through Cotton started cross harp - second position in the key of D. That's what Little Walter did on the Muddy Waters original 'Just to be with You'.

@@paulcook68 yessir…. Still work in the music industry….. tour with Mississippi Heat, as well as my own band, Tom Holland & the Shuffle Kings……. Gig around Chicago when not on the road…..
