Hello prim friends! My name is Gabriella Moir and welcome to our channel The Cape on the Corner at Tweedthistle Farms, where we love to explore beautiful gardens, antique shops and homes that are filled with history in early American antiques and primitives that also go well in farmhouse decor and decorating. We are sharing the building process too as we build our forever home, a Cape Cod style home on our 5+ acres in Ohio where we also have a specialty cut flower farm. Follow along as we share daily life of starting seeds and planting seedlings for the cutting garden, establish new landscaping near our home to try to give it that early look and feel. In the growing season we'll be starting a kitchen herb garden and so much more. Keep watching!

Zone 5b, south of Buffalo NY and smiling. You are the cape on the corner and I am the saltbox in the woods!!! I struggled as we planned our gardens and landscape, to foundation plant or not? Not planting is more historically correct but planting softens the eye. Well we planted and I have no regrets. Our woods is the spring is filled with wild flowers. Enjoy the journey and thanks for sharing with us.

The "tipping" hostas leaves fountain is a great idea for a garden. I didn't know there was such a variety of hostas.! I love them!!😂❤❤❤❤

I have wonderful shady areas, too, and the deer have loved coming in and devouring my plants. Love the deer and I do understand I am the intruder. My point is that if you have deer, you must plant resistant plants. That’s a huge learning curve, as I am currently discovering. I am enjoying the education, but I miss hostas and the other deer delicacies I used to plant. I used Liquid Fence spray for 15+ years with 100% success. This year nothing is working and I have lost hostas, begonias, Oakleaf hydrangeas, impatiens,and even painted ferns. If you can properly fence your yard, do it! Looking forward to seeing how you landscape. DO LEARN about deer proofing FIRST!

They were selling little bags of a deer repellent that they had hung around their garden. We personally fertilize the grassy area around our flower farm with Milorganite. A known side benefit is that it also repells deer and rabbits.

My sister sent this beautiful video to me. She lives in nearby Auburn Township, while I live in south Texas (Lavaca County). I grew up near Chagrin Falls and certainly miss the variety of hostas and water plants that thrive in your zone. I’ve tried growing hostas down here, what a joke. This last month we’ve had triple digit temperatures and no rain for the past three weeks. Of course, very few plants survive the brutal heat, and I spend my days battling armadillos, copperheads, fire ants, pocket gophers and nematodes. Watching your video tugged at my nostalgic northeast Ohio heartstrings, but then I had a flashback to waist deep snow and below zero temperatures, and despite all of the climatic hardships, I thanked the Lord I’m living in the great state of Texas.

I got so much inspiration from this video. I love the time you took showing things. One question: how do they manage mosquitoes and gnats? I have a similar yard with woods around, and we have had such a problem with them.
