So they are actually playing by their own rules. Never actually thought they would cheat but coming back to a trick judged wrongly is actually really noble.
@ExitiumNL
@ExitiumNL 2 жыл бұрын
There's a good chance they haven't cheated. Penn uses code and the magician then basically gets the call whether they know based on the code used. In this case Simon said they knew, while apparently they didn't. I wouldn't be surprised if they found out much later when for example talking to a judge about it, and then decided to invite him back to give him the trophy.

Clearly they thought the chips were gimmicked and had no problem saying that in front of an audience here, so why didn't they just say that in the first place?

@@EveryDooDarnDiddlyDay Great question! Earlier, since they thought he was using gimmicked chips, they did not want to give away the trick, so they had to speak in code. Now that they knew he wasn't using gimmicked chips, they could say 'gimmicked chips' in front of the entire audience without giving away the magic.

As much as I have seen they have never mocked any performer on this show. Except Kostya Kimlat which just proves how good he is. Even if they know the trick inside-out they always appreciate crafts- and showmanship which goes to their act. Just being on this show is boost to many magician's career. Just being there performing means they deserve larger expose and promotion from Penn & Teller.

That is why we divide magicians into magicians and jugglers or shellfishers. Magicians actually use a smart hand, while jugglers use a quick hand. Jugglers are mostly Asians who are really good at it and can sell their style of "magic", but it's not the classic magic we prefer for the cleverness of the execution over the speed.

there are multiple gimmicked coin tricks, for example 2 coins were one is hollow on one side and the other fits inside of it. Both look the same size but once you hide them in your hand, one of them can easily disappear (being inside the other).
@horusschnopp1882
@horusschnopp1882 2 жыл бұрын
@@DL-kc8fc What are you talking about? Sleight of hand or "quick hand" is as much a part of "classical" magic as any other. Card magic is heavily built upon quick hands as much as smart hands. I've never even heard those terms before; no one in the magic community calls it "quick hands", it's called sleight of hand. Stop spreading falsehoods, especially to vilify Asian magic, when European magic uses similar or the same techniques. People who use sleight of hand primarily or exclusively are as much magicians as anyone else.

@@DL-kc8fc I’m not Asian, but your comment is really insensitive and ignorant.
@DL-kc8fc
@DL-kc8fc 2 жыл бұрын
@@DOC_951 Keep calm. I praise Asian magic for its originality (I have it written above) and these fast jugglers can sell their magic well to the audience, but they really differ from classic European magic. European magic is not so fast (it is not juggling) and black theater has ceased to be used in the last century. European magic relies heavily on fake switches and offers a lot of speculation. Asian magic is about a very fast hand or a black scene, so it offers nothing to speculate. That's just a fact. If this has affected you, for example, European (stage) magic is quite conservative and lacks a variety of performances. Card tricks or pulling pigeons out of their jackets are no longer attractive and therefore focus more on clever old tricks, but with a new wow effect. Asian "magic" is traditional and is rather perceived as a cultural and artistic performance that is born of more dexterity and long training.

I am sure they know how he did it, the likely method I thought of and believe to be visible in the tape is mentioned in the comments here, so if we know they do. 4 chips, 2 red ones. As for the last move, the only thing that is possible, in my mind, is that when he moved his hand to his armpit, he delivered the red chip in a pocket, and then it was just theatrics until the end when he just do his normal trick of making the other red chip rolls behind the others in his left hand. Now, what I think he tried to do was to make 2 fake movements to lead them astray. First he suggests he could be pressing the chip in his armpit, but he reveals it cannot be it when he releases it. In addition, he makes some hand movements that could suggest he hid the chip in the middle of the index and middle fingers. Then he showed the palm, and he moved it again to the palm and showed the back of the hand, and then moved the chip inside his suit. Now, I'm betting on a pocket because the hiding behind fingers stuff seems ridiculously hard for me (a layman). And I could not grasp how could he transfer from the back of the hands to the palm again even at 0.25 speed. If that's how he did it, wow. Amazing hands.

Exactly. The 2 red chips set the whole thing up. Funny how the first chip he “teleported” was red but then it’s green. I don't think that's where the chip is though so I think pursuit is right, its probably just light or maybe his shirt color showing through. They also consider beeing fooled when they know how it is done but didnt see when. Because here it is just sleight of hand (very good one) and this isnt hard do know. But they never saw it so they give trophy to him

Basically there are two methods to do this trick. They can only pick one. They guessed the wrong one.

Now a days, that would never happen, admitting that you were wrong. It takes character and honesty to do that and Penn & Teller just proved themselves to be of high character and honesty, unless they are performing magic themselves. Great job Gentleman.

Now they need to give Jay Sankey a trophy too! He fooled them and humbly left the stage with Penn and Teller thinking they hadn't been.

kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d8h0mq5hu8ioo40.html This is penns response to that trick. Doing a well known trick with a slightly different and worse method that ends up being identical to the original in every way just to say "gotcha" shouldn't be rewarded.

Oh come on even I figured out how he did it, he had extra chips in his palms, especially at the first move you see him hiding red one behind other two and bringing same ones that he kept behind fingers, sleigh of hand mastery definitely, but a fooler, not..

@@chrisvaughan2462 no, I m not saying that. like I said : the goal is to fool P&T, not you. May also remind you that you are looking at a video and they are not. Looking something live is really different from a video, especially for a magic trick.

Nobody has stopped the original magician uploading it. I wouldn't have seen this great clip otherwise and many others wouldn't have either. If you had even a few working brain cells then maybe you would figure out that after seeing this video, people are gonna check out his channel, just like I did.

Come on... actually you can see very clear where he switched to his other hand and hiding the chips, can't understand this judge now, when someone has a phenomenal routine then they didn't get fooled bc a big magician does it once in another show, but this b-day trick fool them, feel sorry for those who does deserved it more than this lame act, even he feels so surprised about it so dunno pfff..

You are perfect example of a person who does not know enough to know what they do not know. Penn explained it very well here, this effect can be achieved in multiple ways and they picked the wrong one. And on top of that this magician is more skilled as he is using arguably the more difficult method. The show obviously is not (just) about the trophy, the trophy is just a crutch to keep audience more engaged and to give magicians some bragging rights, but the truth is that every one who successfully auditions for the show is already a winner and very talented magician.
