I know an easier method you can do at home and impress the whole family! Step 1. Dig hole Step 2. Have someone put dirt/concrete on you thoroughly Step 3. Don't ever come out enhancing the illusion

One thing I noticed that they didn't mention in the video was that the dirt wasn't really dirt. It's wood ashes. If it was dirt, then even on the shelf he wouldn't be able to move, much less push himself out of the ground.
