The American founders considered Magna Carta to be their most important inheritance because it enshrined the basic rights of Englishmen. In particular, the founders were committed to the idea of “due process of law” and the right to a trial by jury. Although these principles were actually quite limited in England, America’s founders augmented these rights and enshrined them in the Constitution. In this No. 86 video, Professor Renée Lettow Lerner explains the relationship between Magna Carta and the right to trial by jury in the U.S. Constitution.

I wonder if anyone believed in a "Living Magna Carta"?

Yes, it is still part of English law and does not have its original interpretation any more.

That's a nice history lesson not to be glib but most folks cannot afford a jury trial and the prisons at least in Texas fund our roads and research projects add being in War Time. What do you suggest we do with these fundamental issues?

Reach out to elected officials and ask for a full reason and post that conversation either in a newspaper or online. Bring the discussion to the people and watch democracy in action.

Note. How can one derive justice when the courts are publically-traded, for-profit corporations?

Indeed he did, which is why the 1216 & 1217 issues were made (issued by the papal legate) & the 1225 (sealed by Henry III) and 1297 (King Edward I) versions.

Funny how all of these principles already existed in the mosaic law.

I consider the 1215 Magna Carta to have been a document prepared under adverse circumstances. Unalienable, God given freedoms need no document to validate their authenticity - they're inherently recognizable in every man, woman and child who can connect with them on a spiritual enough level. In fact, the document serves (somewhat) to both undermine the _subjects_ (and indeed freemen (of the land)) themselves, as well as undermine a potential "conscience" from having developed within King John himself (from what he is accused of having done, that is). In some respects, the Magna Carta even *oppresses* those "beneath" the barony - by delaying true freedom, by handing control over to _them,_ rather than to those less well informed on an immediate level. The illiterate, the disadvantaged, the poor - all groups who are potentially moved from just _one_ master, to another (albeit technically, and symbolically less powerful). I don't know of the origins of Parliament, but if it *_was_* created by the barony (around 80 years after 1215), then that could certainly explain alot. As is quite evident even today, the Church of England - [isn't] "free". It's just controlled by a different...category...of human beings. The only one permitted to rule over us, is God - the creator of our very souls. That's it. Everything else that happens, should be based upon divine inspiration and uninhibited spiritual consciousness.

@@letsdiscussitoversometea8479 hi, do you know anything about a OPPT group in the Uk? I am searching information but can hardly find any. Many thanks

@@alessandraregalzi4943 I'm not sure if I've ever heard of that before... Perhaps I once or twice came across the abbreviation, but I certainly don't know what it means. Sorry ☹️ Is it somehow linked to organisations such as The People's United Collective (TPUC), which I _believe_ promotes common law as the only law the organisation exists by, or is it perhaps similar to what I understand people such as Dennis Marx were trying to achieve - Divine law as the (only) law in situ?? Again, I'm sorry if I haven't been helpful.

@@letsdiscussitoversometea8479 thank you so much for your reply. OPPT stands for One People's Republic Trust and is based on the fact that all governments were officially foreclosed in 2013 by a group of lawyers (one of them being Heather Ann Tucci Jarraf) as they found out they are based on the Admiralship Law and they are in fact corporations registered at SEC, Security Exchange Commission as private companies. OPPT is giving authority and self determination to men and women by revealing them this truth. Hope this was helpful. Thanks again for your kind reply :)

@@letsdiscussitoversometea8479 But God himself wrote His law upon tablets of stone. Such things must be written for a memorial of what was said and done, as well as to preserve what is. The Word and Laws of God are forever settled in heaven, but men are not in heaven, and thus we need written documents to legitimize both freedoms and limits to freedom here on earth, else they'll be forgotten. While that may be an imperfect idea, men are imperfect; and as Madison or Hamilton said, "If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary."
