I saw some guys doing this off a bridge and they pulled out a large number of old undetonated explosive devices and got into big trouble for it with threats of long jail sentences.

Very cool. Clean up the environment & find yourself some valuable crap in the process. I reckon that you'd really want to tie the rope on super tight though, in case you find something seriously heavy...
