The MLX90393 is the newest addition to the Melexis position sensing portfolio, bringing the highest flexibility in the portfolio’s smallest assembly. Complementing this, the magnetic field sensor is designed for micropower applications, with programmable duty cycles in the range of 0.1% to 100%.
During this demo Bruno Boury, Product Line Manager Magnetic Sensing, gives more technical details on the magnetic sensor and explains its main applications, including sensing element for the Internet of Things (IoT), metering, human-machine interface, valve and piston position (industrial sensing) and robotics and factory automation.
This product demo was recorded during Electronica 2016 in Munich, Germany.

Can anyone tell a bit about the spacing between the magnet (Strength), magnet type (Axial or Radial magnetization), and spacing (in mm) between the magnet and MLX90393?

Hello, how would this sensor differ from the 90363? I'm doing a DIY project and found this sensor for sale at a local store, but the guide I'm following talks about the 90363, which is unavailable here. Thanks.

Hi, it won't be possible to simply replace the MLX90363 with the MLX90393. The MLX90393 is a completely different IC. The MLX90393 can only provide X/Y/Z data and uses a reduced and simpler command set, whereas the MLX90363 can also directly provide the angle for rotary, linear position, or joystick applications.

can it be used for motor degree sensing(bldc)? How to convert its raw data x,y into degree?

The sensor bandwidth is not compatible with BLDC motor speed unless measuring after gear reduction. For angle calculation, it is taking the ratio of the two relevant axes that generate sine and cosine signals as a function of rotation, and then make the arctangent of the division to get the angle alpha. So, alpha equals atan2(Bx/By) in case the rotation axis is perpendicular to the sensor surface. Hope this helps.

Can I measure the vibration of magnet at 1-10 hz frequency range
@Melexis_Sensors
@Melexis_Sensors 4 жыл бұрын
The MLX90393 is capable of measuring at a 1ms (1kHz) rate. Therefore we would expect that the 10Hz magnet vibration could be measured, depending on the amount of magnetic field change. Very small vibrations may be difficult to detect as the magnetic field change may be very small.

Does this sensor produce sound?
@Melexis_Sensors
@Melexis_Sensors 4 жыл бұрын
No sounds are produced. The MLX90393 does sense the field generated by a magnet and therefore detects its position.

Could you please share schematic your demonstrated device used this video? And code 😊

Hi Sasha, the schematic is not available; however, it is effectively an LPC1768 microcontroller interfacing with a series of 24 WS2812B RGB LEDs and the Melexis MLX90393 over SPI. This allows us to reuse the code we developed during prototyping on the mbed platform. If you recreate this you should note that the microcontroller uses 3.3V while the LEDs use 5V (from the USB port). We found that you need to have an open-drain output on the LPC1768 and a pull-up to 5V to make sure the LED logic threshold is met. Using a push-pull to 3.3V meant that sometimes the LEDs would work, sometimes not, which was due to the variability of the logic high voltage threshold on the first LED in the series. You can find more information about the MLX90393 magnetic sensor on our website (see www.melexis.com/MLX90393), along with a getting started guide that includes some pseudo-code examples and library for the mbed platform. We hope this helps.

Yes, you can use it with an Arduino. We have many customers doing so and have example code in the getting started guide (for the Mbed platform) which can be used as a starting point for Arduino. Please find the link to download the MLX90393 getting started guide: www.melexis.com/en/documents/documentation/application-notes/application-note-mlx90393-getting-started-guide

Hi Rachel, the demonstrator is showing a possibility of using magnetic sensors to detect rotary and push/pull motion. To visualize this in a clear manner the LEDs are used to show the rotary position as well as changing color when the knob is pushed. As the sensor outputs SPI or I2C data it can be interfaced with a microcontroller to work in a variety of applications including, for example, smart light controls that implement power (on/off), brightness, and color control. The MLX90393 magnetic sensor can also be used to make HMI devices like linear sliders or joysticks. You can find more information about the MLX90393 sensor on our website: www.melexis.com/MLX90393
