In 70-some years of fishing the St Lawrence I've never caught a musky, and here I watch you just stack them up one after another! Thanks again for another great video, Matt! I really look forward to your weekly updates. I'm now 82, and unable to get out very often, so your adventures keep me going. Bless you my friend, and happy fishing!

Say what you want. You can study, purchase all the right lures, fish them as close as you can to the "right way," but there are some people that just have that God given gift to be able to catch fish! Matt is one of them. Blessings my friend. Don't ever take that for "granted." I feel for the commenter who is in his 80's and still hasn't ever caught a Muskie out of the St. Lawrence. I've never caught one either, but I fish from the shore in NC. Don't exactly have that opportunity. At 72 it's getting tougher each year. Not as nimble as I was in my 30's and 40's. Right now I'm just having a blast ultra lite fishing from the bank for Bluegill, Crappie, and small bass. Even caught a 5 lb. bass while bluegill fishing one day! That was epic! 4 lb. line and about a 5 minute fight. Had to beach her to be able to pick her up. At 71 years of age and very overweight, bending down to pick her up was a chore. ..but I do have pics!!!

You, sir, are a true fisherman! Catching panfish and smaller bass on those ultra light setups is so fun! Sometimes we make it too complicated with all the big, sexy gear, putting pressure on ourselves to catch the biggest fish out there. There is nothing like downsizing and just having a blast with it. I did this the other day and rediscovered the simple, pure joy of fishing. I was able to wade my feet off the side of my kayak and throw around a rooster tail for a ton of small bass and bluegill. All the decent sized bass feel like 5 pounders then…. Not to mention, you actually caught a 5 pounder! That thing must have felt MASSIVE! Respect!!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

Hey Matt, funny story for you. Way back in the day (1989-93) my buddies and I would go fish on the Toronto Islands right around ice out, mid-march to early April. Big pike, lakers and the occasional 'bow would be hanging around the various canals. We primarily used spoons (Wablers, lil cleos, 5 of diamonds, red devils etc etc.) When it was slow, we'd try other rigs too. One of those other rigs was Texas rig or carolina rigs with 6" Berkeley power worms and you know what? We caught some massive pike with them! I was shocked they worked so well and everyone i've told didn"t believe me at all.....this was all i could think about while watching this video. Lesson learned is that a slow steady presentation right in front of their noses works like a charm! Keep on keepin on dude!

I’ve caught just about every species of fish that we have down here (except for the marlins) but I’ve never caught a Smallie, Muskie, or a Pike, and I find your videos fascinating. One day, Lord willing, I’m going to schedule a trip up North and do some of your kind of fishing.

If you travel north to fish, I would suggest places that don't see a lot of people. For me, that's 4 hours north, and there's still more pressure in the wilderness here than in, say, northwest Minnesota or the Dakotas.

Before Covid, we went to Lake Shikag in Ontario for smallies and walleye. Every year a great experience. Some in our group had been going for 35-40 years. It is catch and release. Being from the south, I had never caught walleye and just a few smallies. OMG what an experience for several years. No Muskie's, but Pike were there. Bottom line, I had never fished wacky worms before that and when it was explained to me, I just laughed. No Way!. But, man, did we catch fish on them. Smallies for sure on the wacky and Pike too. Dozens of walleye on live minnows, but we only kept enough for shore lunch. Such a wonderful trip with great guys. Hope that one day we'll do it again before it's too late. Lord willing.

In Most other Musky channels, they fish out of 20+ foot super boat with 300 HP outboard, using 9 foot telephone pole rods, 80 lb. test line and lures the size of a small dog. You catch more Muskies and other fish without dressing like a NASCAR driver and making more noise than a NHRA Top Fuel race. Bravo.

Four monsters trying a new lure. The level of satisfaction must’ve been indescribable!!! Unlike my case yesterday on a largemouth fishing trip. I caught six fish around 2 pounds. It took a lot of effort and a long walk on a fairly hot day and my back really hurt at some moments. Not a big deal but fairly satisfying. But the frustrating part of it was that I lost other six bass, nice bass, and three of them over three pounds. They simply got unhooked in the battle near the bank while I was trying not to trip over while looking for a shallow part to safely get the animal. Except for one: I saw the wake of a bass approaching my weightless rigged senko-type worm accurately cast parallel two meters off the bank. On just setting the hook my double uni knot broke off and most weird of it I recovered a tiny part (less than 1 cm) of the fluorocarbon on the braid whose noose came intact! The braid had cut off the fluorocarbon! Unbelievable…Some thirty minutes later and some 100 meters away I saw a big bass cruising around with a strange distinctive clear spot on the tip of its mouth. I am quite sure that “spot” was my double colored pink-green plastic worm sticking out. That was some hour after I started fishing and I still had five hours ahead for making up that disappointment ( the second one around). I recalled Matt’s frustration when he lost that huge muskie on his last video but he was happily and greatly made up when he managed to catch the other monsters. Not my case. Two of my last fish lost were over three pounds and that unfortunately happened at the end of the day and therefore with no other fish to make up. It was simply I was telling myself “At last a big fish that makes me forget the previous disappointments!” and then…the fish came off!!! I felt like crying like a kid out of frustration. It was as though some sort of evil spell had been cast on me. I was really really disappointed on my long drive back home. But after a while I regained my contention and I looked back on the positive side of the day: I had successfully tested some cheap Chinese plastic worms scented with a homemade garlic ointment I had discovered in the internet. I also reflected on my possible failures. Maybe I should’ve set the hook more forcefully so that my Gamakatsu hook had pierced the hard cheek bone of the bass. It’s really hard to extract it from that part even using some pliers. Well that’s fishing! And we fishermen are fortunate people to be healthy enough to go fishing even when some big fish shake off the hook. Surely after the anger some laughs will come and some stories to tell to family and friends. Certainly a reason for gratitude being able to go fishing.

That huge wacky worm was tearing those Muskie up! I’ve fished a similar hook placement on a 6” worm in NC but it is called a trick worm. Great video Matt!

You caught the most, but Jacob caught the biggest. What a beautiful muskie!

11:06 You’re that type of guy that has so much luck that if you were to cast an empty hook out there you’ll still catch a nice fish 😅

Awesome video on a clever technique. The first time I caught a musky on a bass jig I was surprised to say the least. I thought it was a giant channel cat at first. But I guess it’s a technique some people use. My local river here in Ohio has finally shaped up, so it’ll be some smallmouth and a random pike or two tomorrow. It’s been a long winter.
