I'm often trying to protect my pieces but this guy is trading. I need to learn that

You trade when u feel u get an advantage or stop his strong piece.

Magnus knows when to trade and is comfortable trading because of his late game. This style is not for beginners tbh, because late game is more complex.

You trade when you have the advantage e.g.you have more pieces or piece values (you won an exchange), or if their pieces are more organised and coordinated, or if you have bishops and they have knights (bishops for open boards, knights for closed positions) or you are locked-in and they are not. These are rules of thumb, everything is position dependent.
